I wondered about the same thing last month.
I guess it's sink or swim time for EV's.

I didn't get any taxpayer funded rebate on my Maverick.

Slate is dead before it even starts… Who would buy that. It will sell even less than the SC. Ford hit such a home run with the Maverick.

AC is standard on slate? But Yah its gonna fail, I had made a reservation but no way am I buying a 2 seater 150 mile range (in BEST conditions, if you're doing 20%-80% SOC and its the dead of winter you're only gona have like 60 miles of range at best) EV truck for 30k.

Well, we'll see... Maverick is $29,840 when you factor in the delivery charge which is non-negotiable.

So, a Slate at $25k vs a Maverick Hybrid at $30k? How much do folks value the Rear Seat, Infotainment Screen, and Power Windows, Power Locks, and AC?

Before the rebate was removed slate was quoting a price of $27,500.
So now that the taxpayer funded rebate of surprise $27,500 is gone. They can bring the slate in at a cheaper price?

Isn't crew cab the #1 selling variation of a truck for the last 10-15+ years in NA? Isn't that why we are losing our options for other configurations in body on frame trucks?

I had read somewhere a while ago (but unfortunately don't remember a source to quote) that another part of the reason manufacturers are getting away from king cabs and focusing on crew cabs is that without a B pillar of the crew cabs, it's harder to meet rollover safety requirements.

As I understand it A/C is NOT included in the base price but it can be added at additional cost

Slate base model HAS A/C standard with KNOBS for controls.

The US has spent tens of trillions on securing our energy supply via wars and the military, all to extend a transportation system that sends hundreds of billions of dollars out of this country annually.

I'm all for getting rid of subsidies but if we're going to pick favorites, let's do the same for oil.

I would say it is pretty important to the North American market.

I don't have kids and I likely never will, but I sure do appreciate having the back seat for storage or my dog or some friends if we are all going to the same place anyway.

Generally, companies don't want to sell anything that competes against their most profitable options.

McDonald's won't sell onion rings because it just takes sales away from french fries. Ford doesn't want to build cars because it takes away from their truck sales. And in their truck sales, the bigger the more profit they make. Selling a small truck takes away their sales of a bigger truck.

Ford honestly underestimated just how popular the little hybrid pickup would be. Now the hybrid is the upgrade. Lux and 360 are part of the Lariat now. Steelies to make the XL look 'cheap' to upgrade people to XLT (with more upgrades) or Lariat (with a lot of upgrades).

In the end, the Maverick is pricing itself where the people will still pay for it at the volume Ford wants to make it. But they really want you in an overpriced Ranger or a staggeringly overpriced F150.

I mean that's all fair overall, but Ford stopped selling cars because they could not compete against Japan and China for affordable and relatively usable cars like the Elantra that was crushing the Focus in sales.

If that is what really mattered, the Ranger would not still exist when it is pushing 2k sales in Canada per year vs 16k for Tacomas and likely double that on Mavs and F150s (I have not looked into this, don't quote me on it)

They just stopped selling cars because they could not compete, and they said it themselves. To make a statement as if them selling cars impacted their truck sales at all is wild and ludicrous. The only thing that has impacted their truck sales IS the Maverick.
