Well, we'll see... Maverick is $29,840 when you factor in the delivery charge which is non-negotiable.

So, a Slate at $25k vs a Maverick Hybrid at $30k? How much do folks value the Rear Seat, Infotainment Screen, and Power Windows, Power Locks, and AC?
The rear seat/4-door configuration changes the "utility" of a vehicle entirely, and in a good, positive way that most customers want and appreciate. Staying in the Ford realm, precise product mix percentages for 2-door vs. 4-door F-Series pickup trucks are not publicly released by Ford. BUT anecdotal evidence suggests that the vast majority of F-series sold are 4-door; just ask your dealer. Those that still opt for 2-door models are fleet sales, certain job applications and as usually, the price conscious buyer looking for the cheapest anything and everything. As most should know, a LOT of full size pickups are primary vehicles where a back seat and 4-doors are kind of necessary.

The only people today that would consciously avoid AC are those in Alaska and in certain geographic areas, such as Vermont.

One may not want to pay for a costly factory nav system, but a screen is a good thing for most that will allow their phone to do the work.

I have not had any car without power windows or door locks since the late 1970s. I would think it's harder to delete these items on a production line for the few that want to save a few $$$ than it would be to just offer it in a package of other items.

Slate has changed the website to reflect a price in the "mid-twenties" now that the tax credit is gone. So a 2 seater with NO infotainment screen, you thought the 2022 to 2024 screens were lacking. No power windows, AC, or paint colors. Slate still has not released prices for these add ons.

I don't see comparing the Slate with the Maverick. Slate is 2 passanger, electric only, and bare bones. It's not a family vehicle like the Maverick, it's more like a delivery, or work vehicle. I think there will be other trucks coming out, more like the Maverick then the Slate.

ok,i give up!what is this Slate you are talking about?
https://www.slate.auto/en/about

They quite literally came out of nowhere. Very, very few "upstarts" have survived. These folks have a nice website, but no production yet.

The landscape is littered with failed startups. Who knows if these guys will be on the top of that pile or whether they will find a niche.

Most of the Rivians I see are the Amazon trucks. Lordstown Motors went poof. They were replaced with Nu Ride, and yeah, no vehicles yet. There are quite a few more that fizzled and flamed out long before most ever heard of them.

Also add in the look of the Mav vs Slate.... that's one ugly utilitarian looking truck!

They were in the unnamed "list" I referred to as "quite a few more" that "many have never heard of"
It was unnamed, so I didn't know if it was there😂

Here's something interesting.👇👇👇

The US has spent tens of trillions on securing our energy supply via wars and the military, all to extend a transportation system that sends hundreds of billions of dollars out of this country annually.

I'm all for getting rid of subsidies but if we're going to pick favorites, let's do the same for oil.
I'm all for not "picking favorites", but actually in the U.S., practically Every form of energy types are subsidized by the federal government, fossil fuels - oil, natural gas, coal along with all forms of electric, nuclear, wind, solar, etc. along with telecommunication services - phone, internet, etc. Agriculture along with a Huge list of other things are subsidized.

I don't believe the Slate ever was Maverick competition. It markets to a completely different crowd. Who knows if they'll make it to market. Who knows what the final price will be. Who knows if anyone will buy it. Who knows what a loaded Slate AWD with 250 miles range will cost (they've announced those options). For that matter, who knows what a Maverick will cost in 2027. Who knows what other small truck competitors other OEMs will release by 2027. For sure, not any self-appointed genius here on MTC.

I have a deposit on a Slate, and I could care less about incentives. If I buy a Slate, it won't be about the price. It'll be about it being a fun electric and it being two feet smaller than the Maverick. I like all the things that the Slate-hating crowd hates. I like two doors. I like a big frunk. I like BEV. I like no paint. I like no infotainment - I haven't turned on my Maverick's radio or used the center screen in 32,000 miles. I like no gasoline. No maintenance. And like the vast majority of Americans, I have a second ICE vehicle for road trips if I want. I have a garage and a charger, and my electricity is 16 cents a kWh.

I don't get the Slate hate on this site. Or the BEV hate. Or the Santa Cruz hate. We sell 16 million vehicles a year in the USA. Last time I checked, only 140,000 of those were Mavericks. So believe it or not, there are actually 15,860,000 Americans who buy vehicles each year that aren't Mavericks. Really strange and unsettling, I know. But there it is.

Yep no more free money paid for by the tax paying U.S. citizens. Love it. I’m sure that poops on their parade
Well you better look at the Chinese auto industry that we trained and they are now more advanced and reliable. Theirs and other governments help promote industries. We no longer promote anything but profit. Quality is job 2 or maybe none. Tarrifs / Taxes won't help overcome poor quality. Who is Number One in Recalls by the thousands. Just like the late 70's, we are giving away the auto industry again. EV's are the future no matter what stone age we're stuck in now. Oh how I love the smell of burning gas in my car in the garage.

Not sure its hate for the Slate ? For me more dislike of EV in general, .

I consider the slate a joke from day one even if it had rebate. The range is a joke for one. Most say 150 miles. YEA not so fast . Do you drive your maverick to empty? I have hybrid Mav and still fill no lower than 1/8 tank which is about 62 miles. As i usually get at least 500 miles out of tank down to 1/8 tank. It would be farther if i didn't have a kayak on roof most of the time .So really that 150 mile range is more like 90 miles.

BUT ,,, Assuming you keep battery at 100 percent which my buddy with a tesla says DON'T do that. Tesla say on regular basis don't charge past 80 percent for better battery life. So you follow that advice EV makers tell you and now its really 120 mile range minus that 60 mile reserve for me at least and its down to 60 mile REAL range . To me that is ludicrous.

NOW if you buy it like people have old cars like another buddy has a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 big block and rarely drives it to car shows. Okay then. TOY car for people with money to waste. BUT that is a small market.

As of now I dislike EV in general. Yes my buddies 2025 Model 3 two motor version is fast It self drives amazing well. Impressed me . BUT I still wouldn't want one . Real quite. . I guess if price was lower and range was at least 300 fake miles (his is that range ) then maybe if I owned two cars. I only have one so never for me unless I win that lotto. .

So no hate toward Slate. I just think its a joke.

For those that say its not Maverick competition Well it is in the price range and it has a bed. So sure it is Just like a Ranger is competition for a Mav.

🤔☝
I have never driven any of my vehicles to empty, as a pilot I was trained to have an aversion to that.
I became a pilot at 18 years old.
If I did drive my Maverick to empty, I can usually with enough money buy a gallon of gas or someone will get me a gallon of gas if I'm on the side of the road. If I pre-plan and I know I'm going to be a long distance from a gas station. I can bring a gallon or five extra with me.
When I was riding motorcycles if I had a long trip I would always carry a couple of these in the saddlebag.

That's not going to happen with any damn EV.
