I will apologize for earlier reply. I should not multitask sometimes. But FACT is the E brake does not have to be set to get out and leave the truck running. I do every time I stop to get the mail. It chimes but not an issue.
Oh I know it doesn't set or need to be - I mentioned that 1st!

With the truck on though and door open - just stating you may have opportunity for a runaway, not a rollaway with truck off.
And you are on that thread about auto-lock claims - just saying if you have opportunity to chase after truck that ran away - let it get up to 12 mph and remember to video!

I haven't had to chase my vehicle in almost 40 years!

The tail end of a 450 mile drive, almost home, but had to stop in a bad neighborhood because I was really low on gas.

This was a '71 Plymouth Fury III wagon, with all its quirks.

So pulling the parking brake release, I--whoops, that's the hood release, where everyone else puts the parking brake release. But I wasn't getting out a second time in that neighborhood!

So at a stop sign, I hopped out to put down the hood--deliberately not setting the parking brake (a rarity for those of us that grew up driving on hills!).

As I passed the front tire, the little Honda behind me started beeping its little horn desperately--and my car was moving backwards!

Another quirk of that era of Chrysler was that you had to pull the shifter back nearly far enough to smash your chin to get in or out of park.

I sprinted back around the door, slammed my foot down on the brake--and missed the brake because of the collision.

Crushed the hood,, smashed in the grill, and took out the radiator of the little furrin' car. Didn't even scuff my bumper pads.

So I called the insurance, and the adjuster was insistent that it had popped into gear, she was just happy noone was hurt, as she'd jut handled a fatal Audi case of that.

So attributed to mechanical defect, my rates didn't even go up!
