Is the tailgate unlock on the dash a dummy?

No. A big mistake by Ford. Don't know if it was cost cutting or what.
Another odd thing I've noticed. If you turn your map light(s) on and then shut off the vehicle, you can't just turn the light off, you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on and then turn the light off.

I dunno... All I can think of is OP got some special edition with ejector seats, finally figured out the sequence of presses needed and *poof* No more post updates.

I've pushed it multiple times and nothing happens. I don't even hear any clicking like trying to open. Or am I missing something?

That button turns on the lights above the back glass. The tailgate automatically unlocks with the other doors

When I push the button to unlock the doors it also unlocks the tailgate.

Once more. This time wait until it’s real dark outside and try again.
If it’ll help, wait until it’s real dark out and back up to a wall (a dark one would be ideal) then try again.

Just took a picture of it and looked at it closely and you sir are correct. It's that cargo light button. Damn my eyes are going.

Have not checked that specific but believe the shut the door and the double lock push on fob turns off all accessories. I have never tried the key pad lock but it should also.
