Relatively easy to guess what happens to the EB in ECO mode. Biggest thing is the changes in the shift points in the transmission.
My question is, what happens with the hybrid?
I asked this question to the gang some months ago…….
If I’m cruising along at, say 75, what will be the changes that take place shifting between the various modes. I would think that, at that speed, nothing much.
Last week, went out with the bride for some errands. Leaving the house, I went into ECO mode. Later, I sat in the truck while she ran in. Battery was, obviously, fully charged.
Nice and quiet.
So when she returned, after I got underway, I went to shift into ECO mode again, forgetting that I was already there, having not shut down while waiting.
I was doing about 45. Without goosing it, the truck reacted like a downshift, as I went by SPORT mode. (I had done 4 taps on the button.) I could feel the sudden leap forward.
No problem………just interesting!

Nothing said in this about changing the engine's F/A mixture. Actually, nothing useful said at all ... (That is not a slam on you, that is wondering why Ford doesn't say what it is actually doing.)

Edit: Oops, duplicate, same as @DesertSweat says ...

Go downhill with a 20 mph tailwind and I bet you can get 60+.

Its got to be a greater distance, at least 50 to 100 miles. A six mile drive at 50 mpg isn’t indicative of much, IMHO 🤷🏾‍♂️

At no point does this mention leaning out AFR
I'll find where I read it but I did read it in some deep Ford material. But that does say engine performance. That generally is not throttle response

Yeah, I'd be very interested in what you find, because I am fairly convinced (without any proof) that ECO simply inhibits "bad habits" of the driver, ie rapid acceleration, and heavy friction braking.

I would suggest that "performance" is indeed equal to throttle response, for most drivers.

Today and about 15 miles of it is interstate. The rest is local roads with speed limit from 35-55 MPH. And I don't try to hypermile. I just normally drive slow. I don't hurry anymore as I get older. I'll get there when I get there.

Those are some good numbers..I would say stay with tank numbers..I would even propose some kind of ratio/percentage of electric miles to total miles..because you know what electric miles are good for?
You got it..no fuel used..

Got some crazy numbers going to work today. 48.5 MPG over 52 miles on mostly highway.

Let's see if anyone can beat that.

A few things that increase MPGs:
I used slippery mode, not eco. This makes it a lot easier to coast and avoid losing momentum to regen. Regen is great if you need to stop, but if you're not dealing with stop signs and heavy traffic, coasting is ideal. (Thanks Bushpilot for getting that idea in my head, also thanks to https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...erage-mpg-in-normal-eco-slippery-modes.13198/ for initial testing)
I also applied the brakes as softly as possible.
Also, with red lights, I tried to slow down way back to maintain momentum.
If the wind is in your favor, use it. Otherwise, staying a safe distance behind a semi truck can be a good way to reduce drag.
Also, slowing up hills and speeding down hills can be useful to a certain extent.

Also, in terms of speed, things become a bit unfortunate for speed demons. Expect to go between 50-65 on the highway. Not a terrible speed for sure, but there may be a level of sacrifice to get these numbers. The average speed for the first one was 48.5 mph.
