Good video. Covered the basics and mechanisms well. Sponsored by Mobil1 but not a specific pitch made. Motorcraft or Chevron or Valvoline or whoever could have sponsored the same video.

Separating marketing from technical advantages is tough. When you check on the Mobil1 site and search for what oil to use in your hybrid Mav you get 5 recommendations - Mobil1 EP, Mobil1 Advanced Fuel Economy, Mobil1 Truck & SUV, Mobil1 Hybrid, and Mobil (not Mobil1) Full Synthetic. Which is best? How long's a piece of string? Different "limited mileage" guarantees (I equate more 'guaranteed' OCI miles to more additives, whatever they may be). One has their Triple Action Plus formula (Mobil1 EP), one doesn't have the Triple Action formula at all (Mobil Full Syn), other three have plain old Triple Action formula. All of them are ILSAC GF-6A, all API SP/SP Resource Conserving - and the Mobil Full Syn is also ILSAC GF-7A.

Motorcraft Full Syn is also ILSAC GF-6A and API SP/SP Resource Conserving.

The MSDS sheets for all these Mobil products don't specifically mention all the additives, proprietary reasons like any motor oil MSDS you'll find. The Motorcraft Full Syn 0w-20 MSDS has even less information.

Pick your poison. Use common sense, don't try and hypermile your OCI, use your IOLM as a guideline not gospel, pull your dipstick occasionally, use a good quality motor oil that meets Ford specs.

Mobil One infomercial designed to panic you into buying it, when all these scenarios have been covered in the design of the engine and oils.
Sounds like a "Feel good" product to me. Similar to using premium gas when the owners manual recommends regular fuel. Just my opinion, but why doesn't Ford or other auto makers recommend hybrid oil. If using it makes you feel better go for it.
I like most of Jason’s videos, but this is a fear-mongering infomercial puff piece.

Use good oil and change it when it’s supposed to be changed. Engineering will take care of the rest, regardless of drivetrain.
Agreed on all counts. The video follows the typical marketing method of manufacturing anxiety and selling reassurance. The anxiety in this case is accelerated engine wear and the reassurance they are selling is engine oil specially formulated for hybrids.

Sort of like how you walk into Costco and see all the impulse buys. What if your car careened off a cliff and into a river and you needed to escape before you drowned? Buy this two-pack of 4-in-1 seatbelt cutters/glass breakers/strobe lights/power banks for only $14.99 after $5 off! Responsible parents do!

Me: 24 hybrid. I have always used hybrid specific Mobil-1, now in my hybrid Mav and previously in my wife's 2011 Prius.

Ford has used the hybrid drive train for quite awhile. In New York City, many of the taxis are hybrid Ford Escapes. Word is many go on the magnitude of 300k miles before they are retired while saving the operators quite a $$bit compared to the old Crown Vic's. If a hybrid Escape 2.5L was problematic I doubt they would be so widely used.

I am a lubricant nut. I always track my fuel mileage and write down all my maintenance.
Read RAT540 forum on oil analysis.
I use no less than 0w30 or 5w30 in all my new vehicles. When I switched my 2020 Ford transit connect from 0w20 to 5w30 my fuel mileage actually increased. I’m talking about a 10,000mi average.
Manufacturers only recommend light weight oils to meet emissions standards.

Not being a HYBRID owner I didn't know this but I thought I should pass it on. Interesting and informative video. Worth a watch.
I didn't know there was an oil made especially for HYBRIDS.

Thanks for the link. I have been using Mobil 1 hybrid oil for my Maverick. Had read somewhere it was designed to reduce water dilution in the oil, but the video had additional info. Buy it at Wal-Mart - basically same price as the other synthetic oils.

Good info. Just got my 2022 Hybrid so I'm still learning. A few things I have learned (that some owners might not be aware of) is this:

There is NO conventional starter and ring gear on the flywheel to wear out. Hoohray!
There are no belts--everything is direct connected.
The A/C is electrically driven (like a home unit).
I believe (it' not winter yet) the cabin heat is also electrical?
The combined torque of the E-motor and gas motor is over 300 ft-lbs--that' V-8 territory! Unfortunately, the E-motor torque is decreasing as the gas motor torque is climbing, so...
The greatest regeneration effect (foot off brake) is greatest in the " ECON" mode and least in the "SLIPPERY". mode (which makes sense).
So far, after 4 tanks of gas, I'm seeing a minimum AVERAGE of 45 mpg. Love it!

Just like a non hybrid, make sure you get up to operating temperatures for a duration in winter. This might mean some longer trips.

Ford Maverick Hybrids are really hard on engines - you tube video IMG_5264

I average 46 MPG not towing.
I tow 3000 lbs 10% to 20% of my miles.
Commutes are 50% city 50% highway.

Two separate oil fills.

The 10K used and 15k used oils are nearly identical.

TBN is Total Base Number and indicates additives remaining.

Plain Mobil 1 used both times. Not Hybrid specific. Hybrid formula I may try going to 20,000 miles.

While waiting on my hybrid, I watched a similar video where the salient point was made that these hybrid engines are designed with this phenomenon in mind, so risk is minimized if not eliminated.

It's the 3rd gens with the issues not the 2nd gen. 2nd gen was basically bulletproof.

No idea what causing the HG failures, many theories but one of the most prominent is the fact that the water pump is electric and on the 2010-2012's they don't throw a code if the impeller detaches and the RPM of the pump increases beyond normal spec. According to a guy who owns a shop, 90% of the HG failures are accompanied by a failed water pump.

I replaced my wife's 2010 water pump pre-emptively at around 140k.

The other theory is heat cycles, because hybrids don't heat up once per drive, they heat up and cool down. Toyota may have tried to cut too many corners with the 3rd gen, who knows.

Another is coolant. People don't swap their coolant out enough and it turns acidic and starts eating the headgasket itself slowly over time.

Good news is Ford doesn't seem to have that issue on their uber-reliable 2.5l duratecs that power their hybrids including the Maverick.
Doesn't the 2.5 have a reputation for being basically indestructible?

I change the oil on our hybrid every 5,000 miles at the latest so I should be fine. Hopefully...

Exactly this.

The video is clickbait, carefully crafted to increase views and generate revenue.

It would have made a lot less money
For him is he was 100% truthful and told his viewers that these harms were just fear mongering and completely overblown.

This video is 10 months old and has been covered in previous threads on this forum. Spoiler alert: it was just as controversial when we first discussed it.

I like most of his content, but this video was a big turd.
