Using fuel with anything higher than 87 octane (hybrid)is and has always been a sign of ignorance . You can feel "superior" or better about yourself by paying more for a necessity ,but it is a lie . Top Tier 87 octane is the best you can do for your truck -spending more will only make you poorer ....Ecoboost can adjust and give more power-Hybrid can not...

Hi all, I work at a Federal Emissions Lab where we measure tailpipe emissions and mpgs. If you are comparing fuel mileage on tanks back to back and changing fuels there will always be a variant. We do all our testing on the dyno in a climate controlled room with strict drive traces that you cannot replicate outside on the road.

Using anything higher than 87 will yield you no better MPGs. It's fact.

West Texas panhandle and the northern part of New Mexico are higher elevations and 86 is regular there. 87 everywhere else.
Yep, I'm on the NM side of the TX/NM border. 86 is all I run in my hybrid. Midgrade is $.50 more per gallon and premium is almost a dollar.

Runs just fine on 86.

thanks Everyone. i run 87 octane from a no major brand gas station, and io have no clue what additives it has. On my daily 11 mile 20 minute drive to work... the MyTrip usually shows 6 to 7 of the miles is in EV.

I use only BP/Amoco gasoline
On 89-octane driving in the city, I get 40+mpg and on 87-octane I only get 34-35 mpg driving in the same city
So, it's worth the extra 5 cents per gallon

For the Hybrid, the manual recommends 87 Octane, that has TopTier additives. Higher grades are a waste of money.

87 E10.

The fuel distribution in Lincoln, NE is bit of a joke with a monopoly on everything that isn't Sam's or Costco fuel, which can vary from 10-50 cents cheaper. I prefer to use top-tier fuel, but not when it's 25+ cents more a gallon.

I don't know why we are still subsidizing ethanol either, but that goes down another rabbit hole.

Because ADM owns enough senators that it's political suicide to try to end it.

There's really nothing more to it than that (nor was there ever).

The 2.5L is mapped to 87 and using an octane greater then 87 provides zero additional benefit. Correlation is not causation my friend
