Does anyone have a video or instructions on how to open up the dash by the defrost vents? I have a rattle coming from the drivers side defrost vent that I cannot stop from the outside no matter what I try. My truck has 3500 miles on it and it's been getting progressively worse since new.

It sounds like two pieces of plastic are rubbing against each other in there. I've tried stuffing shims between the black and blue plastics, I've shoved weather stripping in there, felt, metal shims, everything. Some things slightly improve the issue, but nothing has fixed it.

I reached out to two local dealerships for warranty repairs and either get ghosted or they tell me they can't get it in until late November. My confidence level in them actually caring and fixing the problem is zero anyways.

If I put my hand on the black defrost vent and pull it towards me, the noise goes away. Its something about the interaction with that black vent and something in the dash itself.

So, I would like to possibly open up the dash and troubleshoot myself. Before I go breaking anything, does anyone have a video or instructions on how to get in there? Thanks!

betwwen the windsheild and dash and also put between the dash and the A Pillers left and right and that shut down most of the large rattles.

hope this helps you if you try it.

Hello and thank you for taking your time to contact me. I actually did a similar fix using some Frost King weather stripping from Home Depot. It helped. The real story is I sold my 22 EB when my 24 hybrid arrived 10/17/2023. Ford seems to have figured it out as the entire dash on the 24 is free of noises and definitely what I described as a"rumble" over rough surfaces does not exist.

I have read that some attibute the noise to alignment pins related to the windshield. However, I believe my sound, a rumble, not a rattle, was ducts to the defrost vents were not properly installed, perhaps the foam was missing etc. etc. Only a guess.

I hope Ford figured it out so no one who buys a new (no matter what the price is) doesnt have to go through that, now that i chased most of my inside rattles, i have some comming from underneat the truck, struts are loud, and other loud rattle sound like the bottom is going to fall out, what is weired verfy few times its not that bad and seem like weather affects it, i think the felt covers that are on the left and right are flopping and makeing most of the noise, i hear alll it is for is aerodynamics for a hair more mpg, but im about to yank them off and see if the noise goes away, its very fustrating and im not going to make a appointment just to have it set at the delaership untill they have time to look at it, while it will cost my to rent a car not worth it, but i have to live with it a couple of years or if toyata does bring out that small truck they are talking about, its a shame because i really like the Maverick but its left a bad taste that even if Ford fixed the rattles im just not going to buy another, been a Ford fan all my life (well still like the older ones) but looks like im going to have to try Toyota next since i have never have owned one, had Chevy, Nissan which were ok, but mostley Ford, and one Honda that that i traded at 3k for my Maverick, i was very dissapointed at Honda and will never go back again.
I hope your new 24 Maverick is trouble free for you.

I also used some rubber windshield strip along the entire front edge. It has helped with the dash rattle considerably. I definitely recommend trying this before tearing apart the dash or resetting the windshield.

Only problem is the stripping I used looks like crap because it shipped all wadded up and permanently wrinkled. I heated it with a hair dryer before installing but that didn't help much. I will search for a stiffer, better looking windshield strip and redo it soon.

I don’t have an answer on how to access that area but I can give you a heads up on my dealer experience If you go that route. Mine had a very similar rattle, only worse. I tried everything suggested on the forum to try and fix it with no success. However there are many threads about this with suggestions that worked for some people.

I finally took mine to the dealer and they needed it for four days as they have to pull the dash. They used a Serenity kit for the fix but unfortunarely it didn’t work and they said they would try again but would need it another four days. I declined. Good luck.
What is a serenity kit....

It is a miscellaneous Ford part listed in their catalog under Miscellaneous. It is made by a company named Serenity. Its just a collection of pad like buffers they place between the dash and windshield to try to address the dash rattle. My dealership has used it often enough that they just refer to it as the Serenity kit since it doesn’t have an actual catalog name.

I had a similar noise that started with my 2023 Maverick Hybrid on the drivers side defroster area at around 3,500 miles. I found the problem and fixed it with a 1/4” piece of wooden dowel about 1/2” long. I don’t suggest this as the fix all but it worked for me. With my fingers I pulled back on the black plastic defroster to expose a small gap between the dashboard plastic and the defroster plastic. I then wedged the dowel in that gap. The noise stopped.

I have the driver's side A pillar rattle/buzz. And also the front passenger door rattle from hell.

The door rattle is weird. I can go for miles and it doesn't rattle, only to start after I hit a bump or road seam whilst going uphill.

I'm hoping they do some improvements to the '25MY refresh. If MTC has less complaints about rattles in the '25MY, I may order one. Or just get rid of my '23 by then. This is an otherwise perfect truck for many MTC members, spoiled for some (not all) of us by sloppy design or assembly.

While I no longer have my 22 EB with the rumble that sounded to be where the HVAC duct conntects to the defog outlet in front of the driver, my 2024 hybrid is much better but has the dash vibration on the passenger side and the screen seems to vibrate on uneven surfaces.

RE: Rattle on passenger side door = my 24 hybrid had that for a day only to find unpon inspection my wife had twisted the passenger seatbelt under the handle to adjust the seatback allowing the bucklet to hit the plastic B pillar beside the seat - sounded like a rattle.

My '24 has what I call a "pop" sound. Whenever I hit any substantial bump OR the body flexes like going over uneven pavement, I get this plasticky popping sound seemingly coming from the front left side of the dash. No clue what it is.

That's exactly what I did.

I have taken to using old credit cards and temporarily wedging them into places on the dash that make noise to find where to look. I then put some silicone grease on the edge of the card and get lube in the crevice. This has helped in a couple of areas.

My other technique is to turn up the radio and sing loudly. That scares the rattles and vibrations away 'cause I can't hear a thing coming out the dash while I do that. :)

bringing this back from the dead, recorded a video, showed it to my dealer and they "attempted to fix it" and they scratched the hell out of my dash. same "popping" issue as described here. driving me nuts. i have found if I stick my fingers in the defrost vents while driving it goes away, but I can't find a way to pry up that piece of trim around it to wedge something in there.

glad to know unfortunately am not alone in this issue. August of 22' build date.
Just to be clear regarding the dash noise in my '22 EB, it was not a rattle sound. It was a rumble that occurred over rough surfaces like if I went over Botts Dots on a road. This led me to believe it was related to the duct connected to the defog vents.

My 22 EB was a place holder for my ordered hybrid. The hybrid arrived after 18 months as a '24 and I sold my 22 for what I paid for it including tax and with 9k miles.

The 24 hybrid Lariat does not have any noises coming from the dash or anywhere else and I have not experienced any of the issues that aflict some hybrids.

I returned after letting it sit for 16 days while I was on vacation and it started right up.
