I had the opportunity to compare fuel mileage over and identical route 250 miles, first lightly loaded with the bed cover on, 41 mpg. Then with an empty small trailer and no bed cover, 38 mpg. Fully loaded trailer and bed, 33 mpg. Mostly 70 mph, highway with slight or no wind.

I am looking for low drag wheel covers for an XL with the standard steel wheels. The old Honda hybrids had full covers with minimal vent holes or slots. Big semi trucks have wheel covers that reduce drag.

If it’s the drive shaft, replace it. It will cost a couple hundred dollars.
