it's right there, where you went wrong......

It's more difficult to test just how much that aero matters, but not impossible. Any Maverick AWD lifted 1" would be a reasonably close comparison.
I did not go wrong. The force to overcome friction is linear as speed increases - so for the sake of this discussion it can be disregarded as the impact remains constant as speed increases.

As I've linked and you've obviously failed to review - the impact of rotational inertia is not linear and has a far greater impact at lower velocities - as much as 5x - than it does at highway speeds.

Conversely - aerodynamic drag increases with the square of speed so the impacts are much greater at higher speeds.

It is that simple.

Heavy tires impact City MPG more than highway MPG

Poor aerodynamics due to front fascia and lift impact Highway MPG more than City.

Hey, first time posting and owning a maverick. So 2 weeks ago I purchased a 2023 ford maverick XLT with the tremor package, to mainly haul fire wood. Since then I have noticed the gas mileage has been dropping down very quickly. When I fill up it registers at 670 km and my trip home (highway driving) is 80km away (average day is 160km). By the time I arrive home the tank registers at 550km and the l/100km is at 10-10.5L/100km; higher than the highway driving for a maverick being 8.1L/100km. A little background, I have not hauled anything yet in the truck, put in premium gas and no high rev driving (under or level to 2,000 RPM). With how fast I am going through gas, I have to fill up every 2-3days. After speaking with Ford Canada and the dealership they have both informed me to wait until 10,000 km for the truck to balance out on being more gas efficient.

Has anyone had this issue ?
2022 Lariat AWD 4K tow, I consistently get 27 mpg combined average, have seen as low as 25 mpg and as high as 31 mpg but have not seen any inconsistencies like you are experiencing.

My first 5 tanks in my 23 AWD EB (~3000km)
  • 25.68MPG - 9.159L/100KM
  • 25.92MPG - 9.075L/100KM
  • 26.88MPG - 8.750L/100KM
  • 28.84MPG - 8.155L/100KM
  • 27.47MPG - 8.562L/100KM
Since then, the best tank I've seen was 32.57 MPG (7.22L/100KM) but that was ALL highway driving with a relatively light load in the back (luggage), and maybe some favorable winds.

So you can see it has improved as the computer tuned it up. But not really sure you can expect 8.1L/100Km with a full load of firewood in the back...
With my hybrid, I get more than that when I tow my camper!

I'm sure. My Maverick replaced a 2010 Fusion Hybrid and I loved that car. But I really wanted AWD and the dealer told me I'd never get a Hybrid in '23 (which I believe was correct).

I'm still super happy with the EB. Enjoy your hybrid!

City MPG takes the largest hit due to the bigger AT tires.

Highway MPG takes the largest hit due to the revised front fascia. All you non-Tremor owners with the butt ugly lower chin...it is there for a reason. Take that bad boy off and highway MPGs will go down significantly - regardless of tires.
Perhaps someone with a BA3D BigA$$3D printer could redesign the front chin to further improve MPG? Like This???

You are wasting your money using anything other than what Ford recommends. Ford is smart enough to know which fuel to use based on each type engine. The Maverick performs best with 87 and anything beyond that is wasted energy.

Well you could not be more wrong.

The EcoBoost power ratings (250hp / 277 ft lbs/torque) are established using premium fuel. Here you can see right from Ford's very own website:

Per the owners manual - 87 is the minimum grade fuel that the 2.0 EcoBoost can run on. For best performance 91 or higher is recommended.

The EcoBoost is mapped for a 91 octane fuel. Using anything less with detune your EB (by retarding timing). Using 87 likely causes a 10-15% reduction in power so you're looking closer to 220 hp/245 ft lbs torque.

Thank you. I think its due to the tremor package on the truck that is causing the higher mileage.
Get a tonneau cover if you have it already. I got one for my tremor and seen a six mpg increase..best I seen was 31mpg at 78mph

Has anyone checked their mileage to see if the extra HP actually translates to higher fuel economy? I know it's hard not to use those extra ponies, but does it help?

where I get gas we have 3 options: 87, 89 & 93 octane. I see an average increase of 2mpg using 93 instead of 89. but the cost per gallon is much more with 93. I also have a tonneau cover on the bed.

Varying different reports on the impact to fuel economy but I think it is safe to say in general that the additional cost for premium is not offset (or really even close) by the efficiency gains in most cases.

But I think that is largely dependent on a case by case basis where some owners may see significant increases in efficiency because the additional power is ideal for their driving route/routine.

Personally (and I have a Tremor to compare to OP), I have only run a two tanks of 87 and I did notice a hit to my MPG. This was late summer/fall and get around 24-24.5mpg mixed use driving on a tank (it dipped to about 22.5mpg this winter with allowing the EB to warm up). When I filled with 87 it was between 21.5-22.5 mpg.

So I do see a slight increase in efficiency but a 15 gal fill of premium is $15 more for me and I might see 25-30 mile improvement so a gallon - $4.50/gal - I'm still losing $10.50 every fill.

But it is worth it to me for the additional power and keeping the engine running smoothly. I also only fill at Shell (top tier).

Only in the Hybrid, which the OP does not have. For ecoboost engines, even Ford states you'll get better performance with higher octane fuel.

I have a 2024 XLT Tremor with the trifold tonneau cover. In town I usually get about 14-16 MPG and I just did a 740 mile round trip on highways in VA, NC, and SC and got 26-28 MPG. I miss not having adaptive cruise control and I wish I had gotten the Lariat instead.

I know for a fact these engines get more hp with better gas. With 87 your lucky to get 215-220 hp with 93 your at 250. IMO that's not wasted.
