I didn't use well nuts. I used the bolts with the cage nuts. If I had to do it again I would use well nuts instead of the cage nuts. The well nut spec should indicate what size bolt to use in them.
I just tightened them as tight as I could using a 1/2" drive breaker bar along with adding some blue loctite to the threads. If that seems like it isn't sufficient then using red loctite would make them unable to loosen.
Yes. The other guy used 5/8" ones. Since he has been successful with the method I would do exactly what he did. The nut has to be a good size for the rectangular holes.
The thread above says:
"I tossed the caged nuts and used a rubber well nut that was sized for the opening (5/8 inch) along...
These are the specs for the bolts I found on ebay.
M12 -1.75 316 Stainless Steel Full Thread External Hex Head Bolts Hexagon Screws
M12X25mm â‹… 1pcs â‹… Quantity 2
M6 - 1.0 316 Stainless Steel Full Thread External Hex Head Bolts Hexagon Screws
M6X20mm â‹… 10pcs
I chose 316 Stainless steel because...
I also used some loctite when reinstalling the frame bolts. I had to use a 1/2” breaker bar with the socket to remove them. I used the breaker bar to tighten them too. As an old geezer I end up using tools to make up for age related wrist and hand issues plus skinny arms.
I like your well nut...
I've ordered bolts and washers made of 316 stainless steel to use as replacements. They shouldn't rust from water or salt. Now I'll need the weather to be warm and dry enough to crawl back under the truck to install them. Maybe I'll even enlarge the smaller mounting holes so they will align...
Another stupid question. So when using cage nuts it appears that you shouldn't tighten the bolt as much as possible since it will "sproing" the cage and possibly break it. So I should just snug them but not mash them?
Any chance to get replacement sets of some hardware? The spring clip nuts ended up breaking the spring clip parts off the nuts for me. Since they aren't off-the-shelf parts I can't just buy then anywhere. Also, it would be good to enlarge the mounting holes on the most rearward plate. I couldn't...
I installed it today and it took a lot longer than I expected. The instructions were hard to interpret while I was laying under my truck and the youtube video of the installation was hard to see the details on a phone while on the ground under the truck. Afterwards, I looked at the youtube video...
I get around 14 mpg in city driving. On Interstates I get around 27-28 mpg. On a slower highway (55 mph speed limit) I got 31-32 mpg. I have an ecoboost XLT Tremor.
I just tried this on my 2024 Maverick XLT Tremor. The chime turned off but the seatbelt screen wanting the ok was still there. I had previously followed the directions from the manual to turn off the chime but it never worked. Forscan did work for that.
I have a 2024 XLT Tremor with the trifold tonneau cover. In town I usually get about 14-16 MPG and I just did a 740 mile round trip on highways in VA, NC, and SC and got 26-28 MPG. I miss not having adaptive cruise control and I wish I had gotten the Lariat instead.
