I'm really thinking this is my last Ford. Edited: because I was being dramatic........I want an F150 one day. But still pissed off!

Last month my Maverick's transmission failed on a highway in NJ. I called Ford Roadside and they advised that I was on a restricted roadway and to call an emergency number to have it towed to my dealership and that I would be reimbursed. Flash forward a couple of weeks- I see that I was only covered $140 out of $418.97. I call Ford Customer Care who sends me to Ford Roadside who send me to Agero Towing who sends me to Ford Care (so on and so forth). No lie, I have about 5 logged hours on the phone with Ford and Agero about this.

Eventually I am told that the $140 happened because I was towed by someone out of network, but once they saw that it was Ford Roadside that advised it they agreed that I should be paid the difference. So I ask for a conference call with Ford and Agero and the supervisor for Agero says they would take care of it. The second Ford hops off the line he tells me he is going to send it to be investigated.

I get a call back today and they said "while Ford Roadside says you would be reimbursed, they never said you would be FULLY reimbursed." And that they interpret reimbursed as partial in this circumstance. Now Ford is acting like the gig is up, they never said that I'd be taken care of, and that they are at the mercy of Agero's determination. But Agero is a 3rd party....why on Earth would they take care of me without pressure from Ford?

So I would like to apologize to Ford, I should never have allowed my transmission to fail on a restricted roadway and will do my utmost to make sure it only fails on unrestricted roads from here on out.

That sucks and I think Ford should have taken a little better care of you but I wouldn't let that be the reason you never buy another vehicle.

Do you know of another manufacturer that would have towed it from there free of charge while under warranty?

AAA is also great to have. I had an awesome experience with Ford Roadside. My fault start to finish, but they covered me at zero cost. Rodents chewed through the wire harness in my driveway. Ford actually towed 30 miles to the dealership at no cost, even though they were not at fault. Of course then I spent $600 for the repair - $400 of that was the dealership diagnostic cost. The poor auto techs had to push my dead Maverick into the bay by hand.

OP, not dissing you. It sucks you got stuck with a partial bill. I guess it's glass half empty, glass half full. And which it is depends on where you are sitting.

What's a "restricted roadway" in that some tow trucks can tow and others can't?

Was this the NJ Turnpike? Does Agero have a contract with NJT? My daughter had a similar Agero story with her Hyundai, but Ford should be
Better!

You stated this happened in New Jersey. If it was the New Jersey Turnpike?
Only authorized garages are allowed to provide towing and roadside assistance on the Turnpike. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority regulates the maximum rate our authorized providers may charge for those services.
I'll bet Ford Roadside Assistance isn't one of the authorized 🤫(kickback) garages. 😉

Small claims court. Ford will not even show up for such a small amount. Judge will find in your favor. However, it may not even be worth your time to fight the good fight.

Best thing to do : Get AAA 'RV' Road Service - you get up to 200 miles. Ford Care? OK to use but not when in a real bind.

In NYS, the Thruway is considered a "restricted roadway". Not even AAA can provide service on it. Why?
  1. Thruway policies says only authorized companies are allowed to provide service. Some of those companies may already be part of the AAA network but lo and behold, you still have to go through the Thruway service network.
  2. Safety and training standards - See point #1.....
  3. Legal and insurance regulations - See point #1.....
In short, its all bullshit and yet another stupid bureaucratic dumbass move to garner favors.

Exactly this. There are roadways by me that are restricted to the point to where the tow companies HAVE to have a contract with the state in order to tow on them.

Whiy I like CAA. I don't trust Car Company tow packages etc, especially if they go third party. CAA and AAA give you a tow based on your policy re distance. Never had an issue.

1980 - family purchased a new Oldsmobile diesel cutlass - about 3 months old with 700 miles drove from Iowa to Yellowstone for vacation - engine blew up on way - Oldsmobile paid for rental car towing hotel meals etc etc. - fast forward Ford will not even pay for a tow under warranty - bet the CEO isn't losing any sleep over it
