When replacing your phone, look at the different manufactures and sometime models for their update policy. It looks like the Samsung flagship phone might have longer updated periods than the lower models. Motorola often has shorter lifespans as well. It's often worth it to buy a flagship model if you tend to keep your phones for longer periods of time.

To the OP, if your phone works for you needs, then keep it and don't worry about the app not working anymore. There are many in here that don't use updated phones, don't have a laptop or a desktop and have done well in life without all that stuff.

Me, I have my own business. I need the most updated phone, laptop, desktop, tablet and I even have my own mobile Wifi so I can communicate with clients no matter where I am. I need to have all this and could not run my business without it in today's world.

I tried all the cheaper 25 dollars a month programs only to find the upload/download speeds took hours! If they even worked! I need wide-banwidth to upload and download my files to clients. A 25 dollar cellular program doesn work for me.

So when you said your phone is outdated, I knew you had an older phone. I still have my blackberry and my first flip phone. But, in my world today, I could not run my business using those platforms.

So, don't sweat the app. Unless you can find another phone at a reasonable price that won't expire in 2 years.

Well yeah, the moto G4 was 7 years old by then.

Motorola is literally the only android maker in the US with such short support windows. Google, Samsung, and Apple all do 7+ years. Even then, you get 3 years out of Motos, and ford supports the last 7 versions, so thats a decade of support.

Right, but you were not just using it as a phone, you were trying to use it as an interconnected smart device.

Nobody forced you to use the app. You can drive like its 1980 and things like remote start hadnt been invented yet.
Yes I agree with your comment but after 54 years of driving most of this new stuff is just a distraction.

I see a lot of advice in this thread but I'll say with a phone that old, anything you upgrade to will feel like a race car, and have all the latest 5g bands and much better coverage.

Good to hear! Maybe something has changed in the past 3 years, but back in '23 the Motorola Moto G4 I was using was DOA as far as Ford and other apps were concerned.

Ouch. That sucks.

Yeah, all my desktop computers are ancient- so is my iPad, but they ain’t broke, so I’m crossing my fingers but the phone is different- it’s my emergency situation so it’s within the current OS. Time to upgrade 😬
I guess as an IT professional I find the thought of running an end of life OS out on the public internet extremely problematic if you do anything involving banking or personally identifiable information (name, address, SS, etc.). Then again security by obfuscation is also a thing, and at some point a device is so old that even the bad guys don't even know how to interact with it (like an Indian call center scammer in remote in Windows 95).

Having said all that, you can still get a decent Android phone for under $200. I got a Moto G 2025 power 6 months ago or so for $150 and it will get security updates for 4 years. Having your identity or bank info stolen is like a express lane into the 9 circles of hell, even if money isn't stolen outright.

I have the pixel fold (personal) and a iPhone 17 pro max for work. I much prefer the Pixel, and the Bootloader isn't locked down tighter than a frogs ass.

The OP has a device that no longer supports ROM updates, and 0 Security/Kernel updates. I wouldn't keep my banking info on that phone... Some people live on the edge, and some soak the matches in gasoline.

Seriously, upgrade... Even the cheaper phones others have pointed out will serve you well for several years.
My aunt was one of those. A stalwart defender of XP who absolutely refused to upgrade anything. It eventually got to the point that her bank refused to allow her digital access to her accounts because breaches were becoming so frequent. That is what finally got her off her arse and get a windows 11 PC.

Absolutely drove me batty trying to explain to her that a computer that had not been patched for over a decade was so easy to compromise that nothing was going to fix it, and her accounts were constantly compromised because her PC was compromised, and no, I cant fix it, modern browser sand tools dont support something that was new when I was a little kid. Now if I could get the windows 10 people off of 10 already........

EDIT: I should clarify, this XP upgrade was LAST YEAR. That is how long she stubbornly clung onto that thing.....

I worked in IT my whole career. If you get 5 years out of a phone, PC, Laptop or whatever, you have done well. However, time is money and your will be wasting a lot of it with old Tech. Security alone is a biggy!

This is why OS/2 Warp on my Packard Bell 486DX is used for all my personal online banking transactions. 😏
😆, been in IT since 1982 and I had the unfortunate pleasure of repairing Packard Bells (Packard Hell), their custom hardware had horrible compatibility in especially sound and so prone to failure. Couldn't stand to work on them. Now Warp was nice.
