In another thread a member shared they use the type device linked below to integrate apps not Supported by AA or Carplay into their Infotainment Center.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YQ2V4G...ZV9U0BCP&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it

A couple questions for those that use these type devices.

The device accepts a SIM card to allow for direct cell phone service and cellular data thru the device. If a SIM card is not used (due to the added subscription costs) how is data to use the apps made available?

Would setting you cell phone up as a hotspot work? Have the device sign into that network to provide data to the apps?

If not, is there an alternative way to provide data to the device, since available WIFI would certainly be inconsistent?

Are these devices fully supported by Android and the Play Store, so the system and apps stay current and updated as new versions become available?

Also, I assume this is not a mirroring device so app layout and formatting would be completely independant from your phone, unless you are using it to sign into Android Auto by you phone, or is AA completely independent then, too?

Thanks for any info. :)

I don't like the idea of rooting my phone or sideloading loading apps thru another app onto my phone to try to get around AA's built in controls, but these devices seem to allow for a way around that without anything being "questionable". Is that a fair assumption?

It does operate on it's own independent Android system, so it can run almost any app on the truck's display. Google play store works just like it would in your phone. That is, if you're not using AA/ carplay from your phone. You can also connect your phone to it via Bluetooth and voice calls will work flawlessly. I use my phone's wireless Hotspot for internet access, and it works great for me. The other positive for me is a vastly improved music playing experience, since you can use any music app Android has to offer, and store all of your digital music on the device itself. It's worth every penny for me, and I got one of the most expensive ones I could.
