Installed these 2013-2019 Escape folding rear headrests (eBay purchase). Matches the XL black cloth interior. Great fit but they do not lock in - the notch in the shaft that locks them is a bit smaller than the OEM. I might modify it later but it is a snug fit - they aren’t going anywhere. Provides a lot more rear visibility and they clear the front seats when folding the rear seat down.

Looks good. I have measured Ford Escape rear seat bottoms. I think they would work for people who want split rear seat bottoms.
How did you get your post on the main news page? I can't figure it out. No one has answered that question for me yet.

Oh that’s cool. My wife’s car is Escape Titanium. I told her about this and she promptly told me “don’t you touch my freaking headrests!”

She said just remove yours. Smart gal? 😝

🤓I like it! Wish an OEM option was available. I always have the rear headrest down whenever possible to provided a clearer view to watch for those short stop collision occasions where a tailgater can not respond quick enough. My wife was stopped at traffic light and plowed into by two cars just a month ago. There is a lot of crazy people out there driving. The driver at fault was using Auto Cruise Control and not paying attention. Thanks for the info.

I have a Gen 2 Escape. Permanently removed center headrest since no one sits there. I’ll do the same with the Maverick when I get it.

Headrests removed, seat folded down, deck installed. My 2 Goldens dont need headrests but I sure do have slobber on all the rear windows and blond hair everywhere. Hense: dog truck.

I believe I saw a thread on the Bronco Sport forum where there is an OEM folding headrest for the BS. Not sure if it would work in the Mac or not and I’m not sure about the color match. The brown “leather” in my Outerbanks is a different color than the brown in the Mav Lariat. Not sure if there is a cloth version.
In terms of removing headrests, I used to remove the ones in my Honda Ridgeline all the time. It wasn’t that I felt unsafe from a view standpoint with them in, I just preferred the view from my rear view mirror with those headrests hogging up a majority of the view. I suspect I will do the same in my Mav since I will rarely have rear passengers.

I popped mine out and stow them under the seat if we carry a passenger (rarely), but it's great to see other options.

Interesting or informative threads are picked by the forum administrators to be on the main page. There's nothing you can do to force it to show up there (except post interesting or helpful threads!)

I didn't even know they made those - very nice, and wise of you to take the opportunity to improve your visibility whenever possible.

I am wondering if people that really need this also have trouble seeing over the steering wheel? 🤔
I don't need the better rear view, I want it.

I have an older Lotus Exige. I don't know why they have a rear view mirror in it (probably some automaker requirement?) because the engine is behind the driver and the top part of the engine and intercooler are located directly behind the rear window. You can see a pic of that here. I've driven this car for 13 years with that rear center visibility being impaired. First thing I did on my Mav was to remove those headrests for a better view in the mirror. My Mav's prior owner chose the rear sliding window option. I'd even prefer to have the standard window that didn't have the blacked out frame/bars in the glass around that sliding window.

Would you walk around with dirty eyeglasses? They see just fine. That's not the point - some people find it annoying when they know they can easily see better. If that extra bit of visibility provides me additional warning/defense against some of these dipsh*ts on the road, I'm going to do it.

I guess for me at least this could only be slightly useful on the passenger side. I can’t even see the headrest on the back seat behind me in the mirror because my head is in the way.

Most people in this forum are very clever and informative. I have a set of black leatherette folding head rests ordered and are due Saturday. : )
