I liked the ranchero back in the day. I like hybrid though for those of us who don't have homes to EV hook up and don't want to sit at a electrical unit on road.

I really like the 30k price vs. hybrid for a xlt 27 which might be 38,000 big ones.
The points that burns my biscuit are threefold.

1: charging away from home costs a shit ton more and the guv is up charging EV’s I hear.

2: Range under load, A/C blasting, truck bed with 500 pounds of crap in it.
Heating up the cabin and keeping the lithium warm in the winter often cuts range by 50%

3:All EV’s should have a battery platform that allows the customer to add cells at home.
Going on a trip, get that second battery plugged in next to the primary, at home in the garage.

OR

Like you plug in a Ryobi 40 volt.
Say each one adds 25 miles of range. Plug in four, you should have slots for that.
Then throw four more in the truck for swap outs.
Stock range 350 miles, plus 100 miles for the four packs you plugged in.
Plus the extra packs you charge.

Take your eight removables in your hotel room with a charger or chargers to fully charge your packs.
Charger or chargers, plus the 8 batteries should all fit in a couple of boxes hauled in the room on a small foldable. luggage hand cart.

550 Mile total range is possible,
At least 450.
That and a quick one hour charge at your lunch stop should net a total daily range of
600 to 700 miles.

We’re talking about pick up truck here.
I have me a small digital gas generator in the back and a five gallon Jerry can of gas.
For the out back.
:’P

A customer could buy the extra small charger or chargers and the batteries along the way as needed. One at a time.

Lots if pre existing tech out there.

What are we even calling this new Ford EV truck? Is it really going to be the Ranchero? Given that it's clearly going to be an on road vehicle, the Ranchero name doesn't seem to fit. Ford whatever reason the Ranchero name to me conjures images of the 1950s fascination with westerns - John Wayne, little boys with cowboy hats and toy guns. Not a modern EV street truck

How about Ford copy GM and just call it the Maverick EV?

I seriously doubt this will be $30k by the time it's available. I also seriously doubt the Slate will be under $30k, either. But the Telo MIGHT be in it's estimated price range of $40-45k, because they've done their homework. Between this Ford thing at $35k and the Telo at $45k, I'd go with the Telo; and I'm a tightwad.

I want a Telo with another 12" on the front. That would make it the size of a Kia Soul. I'm watching Telo closely, but I fear for a year or two they're going to be a California-only story. Because production is really low and they can probably sell every one they make without leaving the state. That's not from them - that's just me thinking out loud.

They announced yesterday they've lined up their body in white (BIW) manufacturer. They're doing the first batch of 500 themselves, attaching all the bits to the BIW in bays. Kind of cool.

I think Telo will be a cult hit in California. I'm hoping they live long and prosper. Because they deserve to. America needs more risk takers like Telo.

Not really a breakthrough. It's a reboot of a minitruck with an update of the popular 4 doors and also hybrid option. Fords genius is the timing of it, using a full car unibody and mostly keeping it looking like a truck. The first time in decades an American automaker has beaten a foreign maker to the punch. It is great but the drawback is brand reliability.
I've had mine for a year and a half with zero reliability issues. It's also the first new vehicle I've bought that has required no warranty work. I never had problems with the rearview camera, but had the recall work done. I have one open recall, for the trailer brake lights issue or whatever it is. That doesn't affect day-to-day reliability.

Same here. No issues in 3 years, well other than the stupid infotainment unit locking up randomly, which was somewhat improved after the recall fix for the rear view camera.

And for those who feel it's forced, don't buy one! No one is forcing you to buy one, it's simply another choice.
Several companies and governments have developed plans to eliminate the ICE and mandate EV usage. I’d call that forcing…

Let's see your source for a company and/or government that has implemented a plan. Generating a plan isn't forcing a GD thing. Preparation is a good thing.

“Feeling you’re being forced” does not mean actually being forced.

Volvo and the EU can definitely give some people that feeling. Market demands and consumer pushback sparked by that feeling have been successful so far in preserving the ICE.

There will always be ICE vehicles available in the US. No one is forcing anyone. I bought a hybrid because I wanted to. I buy what I want. If I want to buy a stick shift car and none are available, I will buy a classic. If I don't want an EV, I wouldn't buy one. But I probably will try one.

No one said they are being forced to buy an EV. Just that they are feeling a push in the direction.

You are saying that feeling is unwarranted. Understood.

yep, I'm shocked that a Ford hasn't had recalls or warranty work required in the first 30k (crossing my fingers). My experience with Ford goes back well into the last century, and every single one of the pickups my family logging company bought had to have warranty repairs in the first 20k. My first Ford was a '15 Transit250(not Connect), and it had numerous recalls and warranty work. BUT, I bought it because it was cheaper than the Sprinter it replaced, and Sprinters only came in diesel; which is now economically foolish to own. Same for the Maverick, I bought it because it was cheap compared to similar vehicles, not because I like Fords. I'd much prefer a similar sized/cost Toyota that got 45mpg, but here we are.

Maybe the Maverick has less problems because it's not made by United Auto Worker unionists in Merkuh?

Gubmint forced companies to add restrictive emissions equipment of both gas and diesel vehicles, too. This is the same thing. Besides, as fossil fuel rates continue to rise due to dwindling supply of this finite resource, EVs and other fuel sources will become the dominant mode. Money speaks louder than jingoist rhetoric. The most "that's the way we always did it" supporter of ICE will quietly buy an EV when gas starts to climb above $10/gallon and continues to rise. Also, within a few years, that main contention of "range" won't be an issue, as EVs will have parity with average ICE vehicles (about 350-400 miles per fill-up. I'm lucky to go over 350 miles with my 26 gallon tank Transit(not Connect). Charging times are already close to fill-up times with superchargers, and battery life is easily 15+ years above 70% original capacity. It's just going to get better and better for EVs, and only an enthusiast would think of buying a ICE vehicle, if any are still offered.

Whew, to "me" that Telo Might is ugly as :poop: . $45K ??? Something about the lower portion of the front end reminds me of some older golf carts. Doesn't seem to be much there to help out safety wise with a front end collision. Guess it would work for some and that's ok, but one will never see my driveway or garage.
yes, like the cybertruck, it does not look exactly like every pickup ever made since about 1960, so it is "ugly". A lot of people are very concerned with appearance and not practicality, and that's ok for them to have that mindset of "fitting in" being their most important consideration for ownership.

I've always felt that a cabover design is the most practical for a pickup, as it allows more space for the bed without making the thing as long as a semi and requiring a 5-point turn to do a U-turn on the average neighborhood street. I had a Rampside that I restored and drove for quite a while, and Ford, Dodge, and Jeep also had cabover offerings in the 1960's. I think crash-test requirements made that more difficult to mfg, but not impossible.
But, as mentioned, practicality isn't on the average consumer's mind, and the business goal of making cars is to SELL them, so mfg's make what most people want to buy, even if it's primitive and impractical.

at least you wouldn't have an engine "lap dancing" in a collision.
Nope but plenty of glass metal and plastic in your entire front body, face and legs all mangled up 👀
