My biggest worry with this EV is something I haven't seen anyone talk about yet and that's the software. I owned 2 Mavericks and I thought the software was fine. Then I bought a Tesla and I realized that the software in a maverick was complete crap. Software in an EV is just as important if not more important than anything else about the vehicle. If Ford doesn't get it right then people are not going to be happy.

Thanks guys. I think the actual truck will be a little taller and less sporty than that, but it's in the ball park. I was also told by someone who saw it that the nose is a little lower, so I might need to make some tweaks.

lower front line would be nice,its easy to forget about an obstruction if its out of sight( especially a toddler! worst nightmare harming a child)

Amen. I will never buy one, same with a hybrid. We have nothing but trouble at work with hybrids and EVs.

our telecom co, had had hybrid escape for years and 200K trouble free miles( just sayin' prejudice creates a lot of trouble in the vehicle,some haters will actually try to destroy a vehicle that's not theirs,I remember an old 70 model Ford ton truck,so much abuse and after it was given away it was still trouble free,the 360 had "iron guts" one prick made the brags,he was going to blow up that Ford!( he didn't get it done)

Part of my disdain for EVs is the way some of us who prefer internal combustion engines, especially the high-performance variety, feel they are being forced upon us. For those who truly want an EV, by all means go for it.

Retired software engineer here. You are spot on. I do love what Ford is attempting, and I hope they clear that hurdle. One thing us Maverick owners suffered last year was Ford and the backup camera supplier battling over the fix for the camera recall.

Currently, pretty much every controller on the Maverick contains software written and owned by a supplier. All Ford sees is an API. It's a black box that is not under Ford's control.

With the new vehicle, if they did the software stack correctly, most of that software is now Ford written and Ford controlled. And that means your first awareness of a recall is when you get a text saying "Hey, we're recalling your truck for XYZ. We fixed it last night while you were sleeping".

I'm extending a lot of trust that Ford will get it right. But as I understand it, they brought in the Silicon Valley crowd to create that software stack (ditto Rivian, ditto Tesla), so that's encouraging. I worked with that crowd for my last decade in the field. They are sharp and maniacally focused.

Still, it's a lot of software that has to be almost perfect on day one.
