Has anyone had trouble with the over pressure release venting the extinguisher during hot days?
I ask for two reasons, one I had an extinguisher mounted externally on the bed rack last summer and it was empty when I looked at it awhile later, possibly from heat. The second was when I was tech guy at our local drag strip on a very hot summer day and one of the competitors had his CO2 bottle used for his shifter blow, he did not notice until he tried to shift and could not compete. He was pissed. CO2 pressure will rise very quickly when temperatures go above 90F and cause the safety release to vent, these do not reset they dump the entire contents of the vessel.

Years ago had Halon extinguisher in my planes. They got banned by environmentalists types. Very effective putting out fires.

I don’t carry any in my vehicles. If any has fire, jump out, watch it burn. But do have couple in home, garage.

Also, have carried one of those "Window" breaker things. (orange item in photo)..

Will the glass breaker still be there when you need it? Best to keep it secured

I have a First Alert Marine/Auto fire extinguisher, that I got from Harbor Freight, and fits perfectly in the big door cup holders that "nothing fits in". At first, it rattled a little when I was going off road. All it took to fix the rattle was to slip a tube sock over it. It now sits perfectly silent and has never came out of that pocket when I close/slam the door.

Damn! I have been looking for that sock! I now have one stinky shoe!

I have never carried one in a car. I have one at the house, but it is old and needs a recharge. I always get asked if I could put is somewhere else. There is never a good place.

No need to be ashamed. You don’t know anxiety and fear until you’ve had a structure fire. It’s not the flames, it’s the smoke that destroys everything. In your case, it might have been both.

Bob
That's correct. What the fire didn't destroy, the water and smoke did. House had to be gutted from floor to ceiling, ducts replaced, HVAC replaced, electrical, etc. Despite all that, grateful no one was hurt and we didn't face the devastation experienced by the Pacific Palisades people. I don't wish to steer away from the intent of this thread . . . just saying you never know when a fire extinguisher in your car will be needed. Better to have one and not need it, than the alternative.

Fire departments don't show up to save a house.
Fire departments show up to save the neighborhood.

Realty is.
What the Fire and Smoke doesn't destroy. The water and fire department wlll.

NO, So far I have had no issues with the Heat or the Cold...
Maybe, I have been lucky..
Though, I have wondered about placing a plastic bag, loosely as a cover.
if it SHOULD go off, that Powderly stuff in an extinguisher gets everywhere.

Ever since, I have OWNED my OWN home.. I have kept a fire extinguisher handy..
I have two in the house (one in the kitchen and the other at the workbench, in the basement).
A third one is in the Garage...
I have carried one in ALL my vehicles, since the late 1980's. When I was the "spare parts" truck for our local auto club. I also carried rags, extra oil, brake fluid, extra gas and a battery... AAA.. :ROFLMAO:

I carry one of the small white ones fits fine in the left rear water bottle holder, only rattles when hitting large bumps so I ordered a set of 4 rubber like C braces I seen online that stick on with 3m material that match the door panel color, haven't installed yet there for holding water bottles in door panels, great idea and will add info when I get to my truck.

Quick release mount secured to the front driver's seat rails. Seat extends over the extinguisher when rolled forward in normal seating position.

How about at least a RED sock to make it somewhat visible and code compliant!
