I just talked to our local fire marshall about vehicle storage 3 hours ago. Before seeing this thread. Weird.

He said in his lifetime (he's about 60 but super fit by the looks of him) he's never seen or heard of a fire extinguisher stored in a vehicle discharging from heat.

He said they can of course be triggered by another object, or come loose and go flying. But never a discharge from heat.

Also dry powder ones stored at home work or school you should shake them up every six months. (I've heard that before) To prevent clumping.

In a vehicle (in Elvis voice) they'll probably get "all shook up" just from driving.

All 18 wheelers are required to keep an extinguisher in the truck, never seen one fail. They are usually mounted right next to the drivers side seat.

Thought they don't have halon anymore.

I still have a large one. Stuff worked great.
