I've only had my hybrid XL for a few days, but I think that the eCVT might be one of the best parts of this truck--and perhaps one of the most under-appreciated.

I’ve always driven a stick. I despise automatic transmissions and conventional CVTs. But this transmission is excellent. No hunting or rubber-banding, just smooth power. This isn't your father's CVT--it drives like an EV.

The electric and gas motors play nicely together as well. Transition between regen and braking is smooth and intuitive. Ford nailed it, which isn’t easy.

My only complaint, which I'm guessing will dissipate in time as I get accustomed to it, is that the accelerator is a little twitchy off the line. Some may like it because it feels powerful, but it seems a little abrupt to me. EDIT: I think that the twitchy issue was simply having the "hold" feature enabled. Seems that it takes a moment for the automatic braking to release after pressing the gas, so it would kind of jump off the line. Disabling the hold feature made things nice and smooth!
I've owned a Fusion Hybrid for 3 years and it drives exactly like what you are describing. Smooth transition from electric to gas and you aren't hearing the transmission shift ever. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised if they've never driven a hybrid. CG, luxury package, hybrid ordered 7/19 and scheduled for production in February!

How hard is deceleration when you lift your foot off the gas but do not use the brakes? Is there a fear of getting rear ended?
No. Regen isn’t too strong.

I just got mine last Friday and I totally agree, the eCVT is very nice!

With the hold mode engaged, it pauses for a moment before pouring on the power. With hold mode disengaged, it'll do whatever you want--including lots of immediate power if you punch it.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean? Do you mean that the engine revs don't exactly match up with the speed of the vehicle? If so, yes.

The only difference is that there is no shifting. The engine revs and holds the revs. A traditional automatic shifts, so RPMs fall and rise again.

The CVT is actually the better transmission for efficiency and speed, especially on lower powered vehicles.
If you put it in sport mode it will create fake shift points lol. Feels much more peppy, but disables the electric motor, or at least it never came on for me even when at a very low speed or even coasting.

I think I covered this in one of my many posts about the ecvt. If L is not on, regen braking is pretty light. A lot like a gas engine holding back in an automatic car. Much more pronounced with "L" on. In no way is it ever like you slammed on the brakes. Dont't you think car makers would be pretty dumb to do that?

Best to just wait and if you ordered one, learn how it functions. Nothing scary or abrupt. People like them usually except for those who like shifting.

But idiots following you may rear end you even if you don't use any braking. They sure like to follow close a lot of the time.

If you've driven a Toyota hybrid lately, it's about the same thing. I agree, they are seamless and I love it. Nothing at all like the Nissan experience that everyone always thinks of at the mere mention of the letters C V T
Had a Nissan Juke with a CVT worst transmission ever. I specifically got the larger engine with AWD to not get the CVT. Glad to hear it is better. It will be a long time before someone can convince me to buy a power robbing, soul crushing, what's the point CVT. Might as well go buy a Nissan rogue and turn in my man card.

Nissan has the WORST CVTs. I made similar "I won't ever drive a vehicle with a CVT" after driving my in-laws altima; good thing the eCVT in the Maverick isn't just better, but totally unrelated in design. Drive a prius and you'll get a feel for the eCVT.

Yup. Never could figure out why the hybrid drive was called a CVT in the first place, it's a totally different setup.

Because it's still fundamentally a continuously variable (ratio) transmission. And the eCVT predated mass market band-style CVTs becoming popular in the mid-00's and getting a bad rap before truly getting torpedoed by the Nissan JATCO units.

If you think there's a correlation between manhood and the car you drive, you've got more issues than Nissan does with CVTs. :ROFLMAO: I'm a man, I bought a new Rogue SL in 2012. Totaled it in 6 months, but it was a fine car. Just double checked.. still a dude.

All kidding aside, the planetary gearset "CVT" of the Maverick is so completely different from anything Nissan is using, it really shouldn't even be called this. It is a superior setup to not only a Nissan CVT, but to the EB 8-speed auto as well.

I have a Prius C and after 112,000 miles, I still never feel the transmission shift, even when getting on it from a stop. Smooth accelerating, cruising or slowing.

Non-linear throttles are all too common trick to make a vehicle feel faster than it is. If a person pushes the throttle down a third of a way, most are happier if the vehicle accelerates faster and think on the test drive "this is plenty peppy" when in reality they are actually giving 50% of the power the vehicle can produce because of a non-linear throttle.

This is what "sport mode" actually does on a lot of cars that have an electronic throttle, which is pretty much all of them now. Its not making the engine more powerful, but it tricks you into thinking it is by making the throttle non-linear, along with other tricks that don't really do much like reducing power steering assistance, and holding the revs longer before upshifting.
On my 14 Ford Transit Connect, "Sport mode" makes the trans shift harder. Shifts "might" be a tiny bit higher. For whatever reason, the shift is sloppy in D, so I am in the habit of pulling the lever all the way down to "S".

I loved the CVT that my 2018 civic had in it. I do wish my Ecoboost had a CVT, I'm not crazy about the 8 speed auto in the Ecoboost mav. It's probably my least favorite thing about it.
