Most likely just another upgrade of the existing system. In this case, sounds like it is targeted for the Escape, which doesn't use the same model as the Maverick. It likely has some of the improvements used for the Maverick, in an improved package. Remember the AWD system for Ford hybrids uses a separate rear motor, that is not connected to the transmission. I doubt we'll see more towing in the Maverick hybrid or EB any time soon. Got to force people into bigger trucks with better profit margins somehow.

The Ford press release does not list the HF35 as still being made. By now, the Escape most likely is using the HF45. Why keep making two design when the HF45 is better and probably cheaper since it uses their own motors instead of ones purchased from Toshiba.

Ford has two designs for the Hybrid CVT AWD. Since 2005 the Escape Hybrid has used a mechanical AWD. The Lincoln Corsair is the Hybrid that uses the electric motor driven rear wheels.

I was unaware Ford was using such an old school system, thought it was just Honda doing that.

Yet oddly, one of the reasons they cited the Maverick Hybrid not having an AWD option was the HF45 eCVT not having the ability to accommodate a drive shaft for the rear wheels.

The 2020+ Escape specs indicates the AWD uses a Variable Torque Split WITH Disconnect. - I'm not positive the current Escape is using a second electric motor to drive the rear wheels, and may actually employ a PTU (Power Transfer Unit) as the 1.5/2.0 EB models based on the description.

The HP & Torque numbers are identical for the FWD & AWD model as well, and if a second drive motor was utilized, wouldn't those numbers increase for the AWD model?

I also noticed what might be a PTU in an oil change video somebody did of the 2020 Escape Hybrid Titanium AWD. He was climbing under, and there was a brief shot which appeared to indicate a PTU, however I couldn't be positive.

How sure are we the 2020+ uses a second electric motor?

Has it been confirmed that the 2025 hybrid will have an AWD option?

A prototype that was spotted a couple years ago I believe had some external wiring showing that was believed to be powering a rear motor for AWD. I'm in the camp that's betting there will be some increase in tow capacity with AWD although I think it won't be the full 4k like the EB. We'll see - we should be finding out soon.

The hf55 is designed to handle more tq. I’m wondering if Ford has adjusted the 25 to output more combined tq compared to the 22-24s.
