I agree, eCVT is nice, I’ve mainly been in Nissan products lately and their CVTs drone like no other and rubber band acceleration. No such issue in the Hybrid. My biggest complaint is the drone of 4 banger, most unrefined 4 banger I’ve heard in awhile, but small complaint really. Stock sound system is better than everyone said and drowned out the ICE fine. Will be looking at engine bay insulation/fire mat at some point
Thank you for the input. If it’s a droner then yes indeed I’ll be cranking up the tunes - happy to hear that the standard sound system is pretty good. My recent work vehicles ( Ford Fusions), had solid standard sound systems and all my trucks have been nice rolling concert halls on wheels!
Enjoy your new ride and crank’m up! 🎻🪕🎸🥁🎺

I often drive without the radio on. Because I like the sound of fine machinery working. My stock Mustang Cobra with 6 speed and blower was loud inside but to me it was a symphony that I liked to listen to. It's gone but I have motorcycles and now a Maverick to listen to. Happy ears.

I now have about 200 miles on my Hybrid XLT in 2 days. I think I turned the radio on once for 5 minutes. I listen, I watch the power meter on the left, I pay attention to how it sounds on different pavement and at different speeds. How it sounds if I floor it or press the L button.

My wife's Prius makes similar noises and works much like the maverick or my maverick is much like the Prius.

If you have never driven a hybrid built like these 2 vehicles, you will think they are strange in many ways or defective. The design has been around for several model generations that get better each generation. They are different, not in a bad way.

Play with it, go easy as possible on the throttle. Maybe press is hard and fast sometimes. Learn that they are quick when the light turns green. Just play, learn and enjoy something new. Hear and feel what is normal for this machinery.

so my last car was a Infiniti SUV with 13 speakers Bose system, Maverick doesn’t have that, but it’s a smaller cabin and sounds pretty good. It has no low end but I don’t really expect that since there’s no sub. Eventually I’ll get a sub and maybe upgrade the speakers but I’ll likely do what I’m doing with the stock tires, use them until they’re done

One thing I hate about cvt's is that it's possible to be accelerating yet the tone of the motor sounds like it's decelerating. It's such a turn off I refuse to own one.

Does the mav ecvt do that?
Crank the radio up! Problem solved.

(...) And, of course, hybrids can't really have manual transmissions, and I wasn't going to buy a conventional engine. At any rate, all of my worry was for naught--the eCVT is very, very nice. I hope that you will be as happy as I am!
You could install a fake clutch and shifter and pretend.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean? Do you mean that the engine revs don't exactly match up with the speed of the vehicle? If so, yes.

The only difference is that there is no shifting. The engine revs and holds the revs. A traditional automatic shifts, so RPMs fall and rise again.

The CVT is actually the better transmission for efficiency and speed, especially on lower powered vehicles.
What i mean is that in a standard transmission, when the engine revs up you are going faster and vice versa, excluding shifts.

I rented a car with a cvt and was driving it down a long hill. I was holding the pedal steady and could hear the engine reducing revs, so I figured it was slowing down. Nope, it was accelerating because the cvt was adjusting to the most optimal ratio. It's so contrary to all my experience that it was jarring. and could have earned me a ticket.

I know they are more efficient, but I'd rather have the 8 speed that behaves the way I expect. The new transmissions are far more efficient and smooth than the old 3 and 4 gear types I grew up on there isn't even a comparison. Good enough for me.

Maybe someday I'll warm up to CVT's but they don't seem to be there yet.

Cruise control + audio books. 🤷‍♂️. I'm doubtful I'll even notice.

That said, I think I'm going to miss my stick shift. Worth it for a bed and 42mpg, though.

Non-linear throttles are all too common trick to make a vehicle feel faster than it is. If a person pushes the throttle down a third of a way, most are happier if the vehicle accelerates faster and think on the test drive "this is plenty peppy" when in reality they are actually giving 50% of the power the vehicle can produce because of a non-linear throttle.

This is what "sport mode" actually does on a lot of cars that have an electronic throttle, which is pretty much all of them now. Its not making the engine more powerful, but it tricks you into thinking it is by making the throttle non-linear, along with other tricks that don't really do much like reducing power steering assistance, and holding the revs longer before upshifting.
Interesting we were doing the drive by wire (Non-Linear) about 17 years ago. I preferred the drive by cable, but the powers to be saw this as a way to fool the customer into thinking it was faster. Your reward if you will for depressing throttle more was to up the shift points. Throttle really didn't open more.

My wife's kia soul has and eco and sport mode. I can kind of see using eco mode to make you drive it easier, but sport mode feels twitchy and kind of stupid. Most of the time when I need more performance it's during passing and I don't WANT the throttle or trans to behave differently. Predictability is safer.

Some CVT transmissions add “shift points,” which I find utterly hilarious. I’m so glad that Ford didn’t do this with the Maverick. If I feel the need to hear shifting sounds, I’ll just revert to my 5-year-old self and buzz my way through all 87 gears as I hit mach 13 and beyond. 😜

The noise was the first thing I noticed when I started driving my Volt. It's whisper quite so much so I've snuck up on pedestrians. I had to take mom's E500 for smog and I could have sworn something was wrong when I turned on the ignition but then I realized I had been driving such a quite car that the roar from a 5 liter was not normal lol. Now I'm watching these truck videos and want to get a regular engine again 😆

No. The eCVT is not like a regular CVT. There are no bands and pullies moving inside changing ratios. It is a planetary gear set with one ratio. I used to own a 2013 Prius and never had that issue like that.

Grateful for the input on the potential upgrades. Hard to beat a Bose system like your Infiniti. I would be interested in seeing what folks are doing to improve the base system. Please keep us informed.
Agreed about the tires. I would run them out and upgrade down the line.
Enjoy our ride. ✔🇺🇸

This is exactly what I was hoping to read here eventually, having never driven a hybrid or the Maverick. This will be an entirely new animal for me but it sounds like I won’t have any issues- thanks for posting.
