I have a 2024 Lariat... I tried locking my door and closing with the engine running... Truck beeps at me as soon as I hit the lock button on the door (if the engine is running).
When you say "the lock button on the door", which button are you referring to? The electric lock button, or the manual lock lever?

I saw the OP "Frankford" on this morning. Hopefully he'll have time to update us.

I did finally catch myself accidentally locking the doors this morning as I exited the truck while leaving my keys inside. Not in the ignition.

Am thinking it is keyed trucks, not push button start vehicles that are having this issue. I tried hitting the button to lock and close the door with the engine running (I have Lariat with push to start) and as soon as you hit the lock button, the horn toots and it unlocks automatically. Without engine running and fob in vehicle, as soon as you close the door, after hitting the lock, it toots and unlocks. Hence, don't think it is possible for this to happen with the Lariat with push button to start (with fob).
With the push to start to exit the vehicle with the ice running or hybrid in ready state PUT THE E BRAKE ON, open door, computer will put truck into park, when fob exits cab two toots happen, close door and double lock with handle ridges, key pad, or key fob and truck will remaining running with AC operating, etc. and be locked. You can take fob far away from locked truck and door will unlock with fob in pocket or if key was left in cab and you locked with keypad you can unlock with keypad and key fob will be reactivated to allow drive selector to be moved out of park. I am guessing that in keyed mavericks you would have to have either second key or keypad to lock/unlock door. Unlocking door properly should also release knob to allow driving off. Seems like 2022 manual states that if key fob remains inactive for one minute truck will lock if true you better have keypad code with you, I presume.

Assuming this issue is a key to start vehicle, not push button with fob.
Not the lock button.

The handle lock lever.

Yes your action takes place on all trims - when using the lock button.

If it's pushbutton start like my Bronco Sport was you're touching the top of the outside door handle when closing it. Touching those little lines on top of the handle will lock it. Touching the inside of the door handle will unlock it.
I've mentioned that too.

But - if it's running with fob in cab - can you actually cause it to lock on the handle?

Or does it respond the same as pushing the Lock all button on the inside door?

My Sport locked. But I also had the factory wired invisible keypad on the pillar so I would just use that to unlock it again. Touching the doorhandle to unlock it would only work for a minute or so. Came in handy when we were canoeing as I didn't have to take the FOB with me and you could only unlock it by using the keypad.

I often leave Steve Trucklet running when I stop at the mailbox kiosk and when I try to reenter the truck, the driver's door is locked. The first time it happened I had a brief panic attack...it's only a half-mile walk home to pick up the spare keyfob, so I wasn't that worried...but I tried the left rear door and it wasn't locked. That's...odd to me. Since that first time it's happened randomly over the first month of ownership, so I thought I'd ask the hivemind here: has this ever happened to you? Is it an 'known issue' or have I inadvertently broken new ground? [insert melodramatic theme music here]

When I get out, obviously the door is not locked and yet when I return and try to open the door a minute or so later it's locked itself. The truck is 'on' and transmission in park...I know the left rear door is not locked but haven't thought to check the other doors to see what state of locked/unlocked they're in...so I'll do that the next time it occurs.

This is the OP's update

Update: yep, the issue is brushing the lock tab next to the door handle as I exit the truck. I'll have to train myself to make sure it's unlocked if I intend to reenter it shortly. Carry on, nothing to see here. 😏

Wait, if the key is inside the truck with the engine running and the doors lock, does the door not unlock when you grab the driver’s door handle?
No, it does not. Which is a good thing, if you're sitting inside your running truck with the doors locked you sure don't want a bad guy to be able to grab the handle and unlock the doors.

So I just tried these scenarios on my 23 Lariat, so these results are Lariat only and may or may not apply to those living in the past and must use the key to start their trucks.

Truck is running, key is on the center console for all examples.

If I push the manual lock lever next to the door release, the door remains locked. The others are unlocked.

If I push the automatic locking button that locks all four doors, the truck will unlock them and beep as I'm closing the doors.

If I lock the truck from the outside using the keypad, the doors all lock, the truck remains running, and will not unlock by pulling the door handle.

With truck NOT running, the results are similar. The drivers door will remain locked if I hit the manual locking lever. If I lock the doors with the automatic locking button, the truck will beep and unlock the doors once it's closed.

FYI, @lm126027 sent me a DM confirming that he was talking about the electric lock button on the door, and wasn't aware of the manual lever.

So, now we've once again come full circle on this subject. Hopefully everyone now understands how they're getting locked out. I'm sure it won't be long before it comes up again as the MY2025 newbies start getting locked out.

Exactly…..that’s what it’s supposed to do and Ford designed to do. My F250 does the same thing.

People are showing up having bought used Mavericks as well. The circle of life continues, and the door lock lever remains undefeated. :p
