Huh, so TIL there is a manual door lock. Is that why it beeps when I exit the truck and it’s running or is it because the keys are with me?

So I just tried these scenarios on my 23 Lariat, so these results are Lariat only and may or may not apply to those living in the past and must use the key to start their trucks.

Truck is running, key is on the center console for all examples.

If I push the manual lock lever next to the door release, the door remains locked. The others are unlocked.

If I push the automatic locking button that locks all four doors, the truck will unlock them and beep as I'm closing the doors.

If I lock the truck from the outside using the keypad, the doors all lock, the truck remains running, and will not unlock by pulling the door handle.

With truck NOT running, the results are similar. The drivers door will remain locked if I hit the manual locking lever. If I lock the doors with the automatic locking button, the truck will beep and unlock the doors once it's closed.
This is great testing and confirmation of the fail safe lock-out protection.
Well, except the fail safe is easily pushed without notice.

Anyway - for your keyless entry - one last test if possible?

Running - close door - lock per door handle touch on top.

My guess is that's treated like the inside lock button - horn honk and all unlocked.
Just wanting to confirm.
And then we gotta make a sticky for this.

You missed Malort's post prior to yours that explains what does happen - which once understood will explain it's not the manual lock.

Running, door closed, keys inside, a tap to the door handle does absolutely nothing.

Running, door closed, keys OUTSIDE, taps to the handle will both lock and unlock.

It beeps when running and you close the door with the key with you to alert you that you are walking away from a running truck.

But it IS the manual lock …..what is there to explain? he didn’t post anything that debunks the human error hitting the manual lock when opening the door. I don’t know how many times this has to be explained. It is not something wrong with the truck 🥴🥴🥴

It has to be explained every time someone just can't admit they might be the cause of their issue and learn from it. They've gotten this far in life with that thought process and its sadly not going to change now.

I was speaking to his specific question of the beep on walk away.
As Malort pointed out - that's to inform you that you are walking away from a running truck with the keys while locked.
The beep has nothing to do with how it got locked.

with my 24 Lariat, there is no way to accidentally lock the door with or without the truck running and the fob is in the truck.... The horn will toot and truck unlocks the doors....
You can double lock with fob in truck using the keypad. The dial will be put in park and locked until keypad or exterior fob unlocks truck. Breaking a window and trying to use the fob inside truck is not supposed to allow that fob to be used.

What??? Breaking a window and using a fob that’s left inside the truck damn will let that truck be driven away. What are you talking about? If you leave your truck running with the fob inside, lock it with the keypad someone breaks your window or Jimmy’s your door open they can drive away. Heck…..they can drive away without the keypad. If you leave your truck running exit the truck with the key fob and someone steals your truck. It will keep running until they stop. They just won’t be able to start it again.

Bummer a shift lock isn't engaged, or steering wheel lock.
Thinking of literal key in ignition days to unlock those 2 things.
I'd count fob in cab as the same level as key in ignition, so if it's gone from cab - lock'em.

It will not shift out of park when left running if the FOB isn't in the truck, I've tried it. This also means that you can't be dropped off somewhere and accidentally take the FOB with you while your spouse leaves with the truck.

Yeah, I stand corrected. You are right it won’t shift out of park. I remember trying it on my 2017 F250 back in the day with the fob out of the cab and I thought that I could drive it away. My new 250 gets the “no key detected” and I can’t test it on my Mav because I have the hard key on my XLT. 😎
