I've scoured this forum and the owners manual for this and the only answer I could find is via the Ford "Intelligent Search" which seems to be AI driven. It gives me the answer below, and I had to use the term stoplamps instead of brake lights to get the answer.

I would think since the Auto Hold feature is auto holding the brakes it would keep the brake lights illuminated. I feel since it doesn't, it presents a higher probablility to get rear ended, possibly more so at night. I would not want to be stopped in traffic without my brake lights on. This makes me not want to use auto hold as often as I do.

For reference, I got a 2025 XT and searched in regards to that model year in case this is different from other model years.

Can anyone verify if the answer I got is correct?

Brake lights when auto brake is ingaged do come on but only if your light switch is on. If your lights are off the brake lights do not come on when using the auto brake button.
You may want to test it for yourself but I had someone stand behind to check as I tried with lights on and off.
I hope the rear-enders are not from the lights not coming on. Sounds like a safety issue that Ford needs to address.
I keep my lights on day or night because I do use the auto brake button.

Well the question is does auto hold activate the light, and maybe the AI is correct that it does not activate the light. I would think you have the auto hold button on, you press the brake come to a complete stop, auto hold kicks in and keeps the brake lights on, but technically is not activating them

Very easy to test - put someone behind the truck and active the autostop - the answer is "OBVIOUS" YES! Ford would be an IDIOT to add autostop and NOT have the brake light lite up.

This reminds me of the drama surrounding the Chevy Bolt EV and its L-mode (aka, 1-pedal driving). In L-mode, it uses the electric motors to slow (and eventually stop) the car, no brake pedal required. When slowing using L-mode, it'll light up the brake lights but once stopped, the brake lights turn off. Of course, if you press the brake pedal, the brake lights come on but most folks don't do that since it's not required to keep the car stopped.

The forums went crazy with everyone claiming it'll cause a spike in accidents at stop lights because no one will see the stopped traffic without the brake lights lit up. I'm not aware of any such spike but folks were certainly passionate about the topic, to say the least.

Try it with your lights on and lights off you will see that brake lights do not come on when your lights off.
So leave your lights on.

Don't get AUTO HOLD and HILL ASSIST confused.
Both apply the brakes.

Say what? If your brake lights don't come on with auto hold on and lights off, it isn't working correctly.

Yes, it does for safety. If it didn't, you know how many accidents it would lead to? This feature is intended to be used safely with the public at your convenience, such as sitting in traffic or waiting for a train to go buy. That AI generated answer is way off.
Whenever AI answers a question for me, it is either the wrong answer, or it just goes off in some other direction and answers some other question. The genius computer geeks who seem to think "AI is our future" had better be wrong. Or we are in even bigger trouble than we already are.

Semantics, but your brake activates the brake light. Auto-hold simply holds the brake. So, the light would just stay on.

My wife loves the feature but I hate it. I prefer to have the truck start moving as I release the brake pedal. If I need to stay parked for an extended period, I'll just flip it over into park.

For me, Park and auto hold have different use cases. If I'm sitting somewhere for an extended period of time and want to be stopped with my brake lights to be lit without having to keep my foot on the brake, I will temporarily activate auto hold. Auto hold is something I use infrequently, when traffic may be approaching from the rear. After I'm able to move again, I just switch it off.

Thank you for verification, but then why would the Ford website say it doesn't? Bad AI I presume?
Thanks a lot.

Ford apparently saw this, and now ford.com displays nothing but, "this website is on quality hold."

'

I could clearly see the reflections on the front of the semi in my rear view mirror
Flashback to, uhm, a couple of years ago, yeah, that's it!

I'm driving my superbeetle up a mountain, at full throttle to hold the grade.

And I look out my rear view, to see "Peterbilt" taking up about the whole thing!

Do you have a friend? If so position them behind the vehicle and apply auto hold. That will render a real life answer.

I unscrewed the CHMSL to remove the bed light bulbs and left it hanging down so I could see it in the mirror.
