Are the brake lights on in auto hold and foot off the brake? I'd hate to get reared due to dumbass not paying attention 🙄 😒.

Yes they are but not with the park brake or when regen braking. At least on my 2023.

I can just imagine how inconvenient it would be if this truck came with a manual transmission and a clutch we will adapt I had a record player and played 45’s then a reel to reel - then an eight track tape deck - then a cassette player - then a CD player then a mp3 player - then auto search on my FM radio then Sirius XM and now I stream my music and i probably missed a few on my list but you get the point it will be okay🤷🏼‍♂️

I have too much muscle memory. I want my truck to start rolling when I lift my foot off the brake. My wife loves this feature.

To each their own.

You're describing the Hill Start Assist feature, which is not defeatable in the Maverick. It automatically prevents rollback when transitioning from brake to accelerator when stopped on a hill. Auto hold is a separate, defeatable feature.
In the 1950's hill holder feature was incorporated in some manual transmission vehicles. After stopping on uphill incline, driver can remove right foot from brake and position foot at accelerator. Brake holds until clutch is engaged, mitigating rollback. It operated much like Auto Hold in modern cars.

Had never tried auto-hold so gave it a shot in the Maverick and my Corolla Cross. First impressions are that I don't really care for it but I can see where it might be useful in a drive-thru situation or something like that. Unlike the Maverick, auto-hold on the Cross resets to off every time you turn the vehicle off.

For those with sciatica or other medical issues with the leg and lower back, the auto-hold allowing them to move their foot off the pedal can be a nice relief. Switching between braking and various levels of go-pedal are less likely to cause an issue than keeping the brake held down in one spot for sometimes substantial lengths of time.

Interesting
As a hybrid owner myself 🤔 hmmm.
Every little bit helps.
Thank you 👍
I don't recall seeing a "hybrid coach" on our earlier year hybrids. Brake coach, yeah.

While there are various reasons and situations where the Auto-Hold is handy, I find it to be annoying and perhaps a bit dangerous when maneuvering in parking lots. It impedes the truck's ability to move smoothly in a crowded situation. I don't feel as though I have as much control over braking and accelerating.

I understand you perfectly, so you don't have to repeat yourself. This feature you're describing is called Hill Start Assist in modern Ford vehicles, manual and automatic. It is a separate feature from Auto Hold in your Maverick and can't be turned off.

My manual transmission Ford Focus also has this feature.

Im just glad Ford made it selectable and not forced on you as other brands. I dont care for it but learned from the Forum here how beneficial it can be for some. Same goes with the steering and brake assist. I like the allert feature but NOT!! the breaking or steering assist features. All can be turned on or off.

Younger drivers might not realize this "auto hold" feature is at least 65+ years old. I remember it being on circa 1958 Studerbaker Larks & Golden/Silver Hawk models with manual transmissions. It was appropriately called "Hill Hold". Probably other Autos had it? Depressing clutch, then brake, kept brake engaged when stopped on hills, allowing you to reposition your right foot to accelerator pedal. Then releasing the clutch also released the brake, minimizing rollback will taking off. So 'Auto hold' is old technology, refined & returned to modern vehicles with automatic & eCVT transmissions. It's a feature the Maverick driver either enables or disables with a momentary press on the switch. Your choice.
This and the hill hold feature seen on so many vehicles today seem to be neccessatated by the way most transmissions used now will allow the vehicle to roll back if the brakes are released. It did not used to be that way with automatics. Their tendancy to creep forward prevented that in most cases. I still pride myself after all these years of being able to handle a manual transmission on the steepest of hills. Currently still own three manual equipped cars, one of which I drive as much as the Maverick.
