One year ago I got tired of the seemingly random deep sleep messages from my 2022 Maverick Hybrid Lariat, interior lights not working, etc.. I played a bit with the State of Charge (SOC) setting in Forscan (which is the only thing you can tweak), but that didn't seem to make any difference. I'd get deep sleep reports (indicating a low battery voltage) sometimes right after my 40 mile commute.

Upon reading reports on this forum, and since I have a professional background in vehicle electrical systems, I concluded that a 12V AGM battery could be the solution, I figured out that the Group 140R battery type is a drop in for the Maverick Hybrid, and I purchased and installed that UPlus Group 140R AGM battery which I think was $135 on Amazon in March 2024.

Besides the AGM install there's one more thing: I had raised the SOC setting in Forscan to 100% while trying to see if that would improve this issue well before that AGM install, and I simply left it there with the new AGM.

And after one of the taillight recalls was performed on the truck (which overwrites the BCM module with an updated version and reverts SOC back to 80%) I then raised it again to 100% (and again turned off double honk, turned on DRL taillights, etc. etc.). My reasoning: AGMs like to be charged to 100% regularly.

No other tweaks were done: Fordpass is connected and works fine, no trickle chargers were ever used. I just used the truck throughout the year.

ONE YEAR UPDATE:

I put about 25k miles on the truck since installing that AGM battery 12 months ago.

Essentially I have had ZERO (!!) deep sleep messages since then. The interior lights always work when entering, everything simply works as expected. Every day throughout summer and winter. (y)

There was ONE deep sleep event that occurred about 11 months ago in April 2024, when we were on a family vacation abroad and the truck was parked for close to 3 weeks. After 16 days I got a message in Fordpass that the truck had entered deep sleep, which is exactly what this deep sleep feature is designed for as it prevents onboard systems from draining the battery so far that it might not start. This is normal.

It appears there are still many owners struggling with this 12V battery/deep sleep issue on their 2022-2024 Hybrids: so many messages on this forum are talking about investigating battery drain, connecting trickle chargers, owners are told to drive longer distances (?), people are pulling fuse 11, so disconnecting Fordpass connectivity, various battery replacements (with OEM flooded ones again!) most don't end up solving the issue. Overall: lots of hassles. I read of owners that actually SOLD their Maverick Hybrid because of this, and there are people that won't buy a Hybrid because of this problem.

At this point, based on my experience, I'd say that many might be overthinking this.


For me, the fix proved to be:

1) Install a Group 140R AGM battery

2) Raise SOC setting in Forscan to 100%

So this looks great, but what about us regular people that are not Forscan users? Will just the Battery upgrade be sufficient?

Not my problem it's Ford's. Still on the original OEM battery that was installed when my truck was built in May 2022. I have charged it once or twice a year, with a battery maintainer, no idea if it was really needed or not, but it doesn't hurt.

I do not use Fordpass, don't need Ford spyware, so I don't get deep sleep messages. I'm sure it does go into deep sleep, but in almost 3 years it's never failed to start. Should Ford fix it? Yes. But again not my problem, so I'm not spending a dime.

Amazon says this battery won’t fit a ‘23 Maverick Hybrid. Should I believe them?

If the BSM is only charging the battery to 80%, that’s problematic. Lead acid batteries (flooded or AGM) will degrade faster if not held at full charge.

Doing a BMS reset after upgrading to an AGM battery is very important to do as well.
Just to get this information on the thread...

RESETTING THE BATTERY SENSOR
When you install a new battery, reset the battery sensor by doing the following:
1. Switch the ignition on, and leave the engine off.
Note: Complete Steps 2 and 3 within 10 seconds.
2. Flash the high beam headlamps five times, ending with the high beams off.
3. Press and release the brake pedal three times.
The battery warning lamp flashes three times to confirm that the reset is successful.

Making this forscan change below to the "PowerPoint Timeout" should also conserve battery voltage after turning the vehicle off. From the factory, Power is supplied to the 12v outlets and other parts of the car for 1 hour and 15 minutes AFTER turning the vehicle off. Reducing this will conserve battery voltage.
Go to the BCM (EZ MODE)
Make sure PowerPoint Timeout is enabled.
Adjust PowerPoint timeout to (300s) This is equal to 5 minutes.

You can set it to anything you would like but reducing this from the factory setting of 4500s will likely conserve battery voltage. Doing a BMS reset after upgrading to an AGM battery is very important to do as well.

There are other settings in the BCM and BMS that likely could help but I don't have a hybrid to test these changes on.

The PowerPoint Timeout issue is a key point. In addition to updating to an AGM battery, I noticed that the dashcam that I had hooked up to the 12v outlet was still on WAY after I turned the truck off. I had, up until that point, believed it turned off soon after the truck was turned off. I had enough experience to know that dashcams also drain the truck battery (happened with my previous truck). I no longer use the 12v outlet as a permanent hookup.

any guess at to why they set the threshold to 80 percent ? There was likely some rationale behind it but likely whatever benefit (S,?) they thought it would have were outweighed by the probs it caused

And there we have it folks. I installed an AGM battery in May of last year. I don't have forscan so I didn't get to reset the charging level. I still get sleep messages occasionally but the battery charges back up. Waiting for Ford to come through with the sofware fix. If they don't do it right, I'm driving down to Carlsbad..................LoL. I think I met you at the Maverick meeting in Huntington Beach!
How is this a FIX when you are still getting deep sleep messages :unsure:

It seems logical to me if the fix was just the 80% SOC was it they would have had a fix almost right away. Its easy to do. Plus the new 2025 would have that from the start and I hear 25 comes with AGM but also have seen posted some with 2025 have issue with low battery.

If ford is on the hook for 22 to 24 AGM battery that would be BIG $$ about 50k each year of hybrids sold. 150K x $50 = 7.5 million. Guess at cost of $50 a battery plus labor to install. then 10 million total or more

To lose the remote features isn't a big thing to me. BUT lose dome lights IS. Its a safety issue.

Sounds like a class action might be needed to get Ford to move on it. Will see at end of March. BUT I expect a delay and Ford will post a fix will be end or 2nd quarter. Then again after that. Push the can down the road. Hope I am wrong on that.

Mav47...I thought I read on here that the Deep Sleep issue was only for 22's and 23's. Do the 24's see it also?
YES, I have a friend with a 2024 and he gets the deep sleep as well.

WOW, well I’ve had deep sleep issues which affected my FordPass app from being useless. So I went into the truck screen settings and eliminated any Sync of data going to Ford currently. Then I did the Battery Reset Sensor as stated above and verified the battery warning light flashed three times. This was all done Saturday night. As of today Monday noon I have been always able to use the FordPass app as normal with NO deep sleep issues noticed “yet”.
I am definitely not saying this is the fix but before I was to swap the stock battery out and replace it I wanted to at least try this and it has been working for a day and 1/2. Thanks everyone for all your input but Ford has a long standing known problem and they need to provide a fix please.

I've had my '23 for a year and half. No problems. Do all of the models indicated always have or will have this problem?
