For those who are Costco members & buy gas there, what are you finding as the average savings per gallon compared to your local stations? (interested in all grades of gas)

They just opened a new Costco close to me, and I'm considering a membership just to access their gas pumps, as I've heard they are consistently cheaper than regular gas stations. Just wondering if others have found this beneficial?
I live between two Costcos here in Northern Illinois. I'd say it averages around .25 to .30 cents less. Get my membership for free because I gave a card to my niece who's a big spender and racks up a lot of points.

They don't jack the price till a new tanker fills.

87 Octane at Sam's Club for my Hybrid Maverick. Except for one occasion when i was out of town, I've gassed her up at the same Sam's everytime.
My previous vehicle that the Mav replaced had 465k miles on it using mostly Sam's gas.

I use a BP credit card, 15 cts. off per gallon. there's a lot more BP stations than Sam's or Costco's. No annual fee and I think for the first 90 days you ger 30 cts. off per gallon. Of course, if there aren't any BP stations, in your area, many other companies offer a similar deals.

We are ~5 miles from two different Costco's here in Utah. The cheapest gas in the area is BJ's Short Stop (less than a mile from my house), consistently ~$.10/gallon cheaper than Costco. And I don't have to wait in line for 10min.

To follow up on this....the new Costco I was referencing in the original post is typically no cheaper, and often MORE expensive than other local stations. I really have no idea why this one seems to be different. Today, Costco is $.40 more per gallon than Walmart. This from monitoring on GasBuddy.

So, obviously, I have not joined, as I would not shop there for other things.

I would say that unless you use Costco as a food place as well as for gas then you probably will save $$. You have to consider the Annual Fee you pay to warrant just using it for gas.

I have a Sam's Club membership and use it for both buying food/supplies and gas. Sam's Club membership is lower too than Costco by $15 last I checked.
One difference between Costco and Sam's is Costco is Top Tier Gasoline, where as Sam's is not. There is a difference, especially for long term use. I pass both on my way home from work, and usually fill at Costco, (unless I need to stop at Sam's otherwise), their prices are usually the same, (about 15-20 cents per gallon cheaper than other stations). I use Premium in my Cruze, (1.4L Turbo), and so does my son in his EB Maverick, price is usually 20-25 cents/gal for premium.

Costco in NJ used to allow anyone to buy gas from Costco. The lines were always long. NJ told Costco it was against the law to limit gas purchases to Costco members. Well recently after many years Costco found out there is no such law, and restricted gas purchases to members only. The lines are still long. While about 10 cents cheaper not worth the hassle to wait in that line.

Costco for me is .50 a gallon cheaper than the local stations. We make it a point to drive by one and fill up when we are out. It's better in my pocket than in theirs.

465k miles on my previous vehicle and probably 75 - 80% of that is using Sam's regular unleaded. I'd say that's long term use.
45k miles on my Hybrid now and all but one fill up is Sam's regular unleaded.
I drive quite a bit so the less money I spend on gas, the more money in my pocket. But i guess to each his own.

Costco has the cheapest prices by far . . . 50¢ per gallon in my area. For those advising the cost of membership balances it out, keep in mind you get a percentage back every time you use your Costco credit card at the pump. I think it's 4%
Same here in Detroit area. I also use gas buddy app when traveling to find best deals. Best app I have

You're right about that app. Thanks for the reminder. Most of the time I just look to see where the nearest Costco is located in Maps. Not all of them have gas pumps, so that is where the GasBuddy app would be handy.

Dont some Safeways have a gas program also that is comparable to Costco or Sam's gas?
But Gasbuddy best way to compare prices in the vicinity.

In Missouri, Costco gas runs 20 to 30 cents cheaper than at most gas stations. Their premium is an even better deal since they consistently charge 40 cents more as opposed to a 60 cent difference at most gas stations. Still, you'd have to run the numbers to see if you'd recoup your membership.
