…... Ford has been talking about a EV cop spec car. We will see if that happens.
I think that speculation was based on the 3 row large EV plan (to be built in Oakville), but that has now been cancelled, so not likely to see a Ford Explorer style police EV anytime soon.

Also interesting to note Ford has pushed out the C2 Maverick replacement platform from 27/28 to 2031. That means the proposed small EV pickup will be built alongside the existing Maverick line and not replace it.

Interesting that is one of the agencies I dispatch for and had no idea they had a Maverick. Looking at the ID on the back it may be a civilian community service officer. St. Johns Sheriff's Office has several white mavericks that their community service officers use. Thanks for posting.

I'm old enough to remember when the Crown Vic has something like a 302 or 351 engine in it. Smog controls made those engines, all engines really, rather impotent compared to the late 60s versions.

My parents had a 72 LTD, a REAL full-sized land yacht and predecessor to the Crown Vic, with a 400 cubic inch 2-barrel torque-monster engine. I got to take my driving test in that thing. 'feathering' the throttle was not easy. Nor was parallel parking, but I passed without killing anybody.
That reminds me of an incident in early 1981 with my best friend, (we were 18) he had an Olds with a 350 rocket & we pulled onto the highway at night & he said "should I see how fast it goes" I said sure I'm just along for the ride, when we pulled on the highway there was a car about a 1/2 mile away, we didn't think anything about it & he held it to the floor for 4 miles & the decided that was it so he let off & slowed to 60, we did notice that car was still far back but in sight so it was going faster than 55, we both looked at each other & said "cop?" It was, in the next 2 miles he caught up as we turned at the next intersection. The county had 1980 Ford LTD's, we were pulled over at gunpoint & he said he was going 104 & (all it could do) & we were still pulling away. After he got his ticket, we asked the cop what engine he had, a 302 with 4spOD trans. We still laugh about that.

"Nothing.. Out Runs a Motorola"

Year 2024.
1. Motorola "old school"
2. Dash cams
3. Smart phones
4. Security cameras at traffic intersections
5. Security cameras on local businesses
6. Helicopters and drones
7. Factory GPS built into cars

You can catch the fastest car with a moped these days.

Edit. I forgot this.
8. Newer car factory control modules to disable over the air with a mouse click from a desk jockey.
Future kids will never understand a car chase.
Yeah, and wait until the "bad guys" start disabling over the air with a mouse click. And "bad guys" doesn't necessarily mean those outside of the employ of the "authorities" either.

No. And the power of Police Interceptors is a myth. Ford adapts retail vehicles for police work. They strip them of options, add some things for durability (such as cooling), and retune things like shift points, but they don't actually add power.
I'm fairly certain there are some departments who really want that extra power who have been proven to have their cars modded by third party tuners, but that's as far as it goes.

You know, that filler panel covering where the hitch would be does not seem to match as well as the hitch surround from Mabett. I wonder if that came from the factory?

There's a little town near me here in Arkansas called Praire Grove. The PGPD has a Maverick. Here it is in the parade they had last weekend.

The 351 available in the '80s had a much-hated variable venturi two-barrel carb (it never got fuel injection). Apparently it was never faster than the 302 models--it just used more gas.
My college car was an '85 Crown Victoria ex police car with the 351 and variable venturi carb. Bought used with 80,000+ miles on it, it ran terribly, at least till the engine and carb were rebuilt. It seriously could "roll coal" before that was a thing. Boy we did have some fun with that car though.

Looks pretty sharp in law enforcement duty! Certainly needs a few minor upgrades, but those can probably be pulled out of the Ford parts bin; and if not, there enough out there in the aftermarket to make a Maverick a decent little package.
Ford already has the badging for the tailgate, "POLICE PURSUIT," though I don't know how many times you'd ever find a Maverick trying to run down a perp.

Now let's not see the Game Warden or Park Ranger coming through the trail in a Tremor.

When I worked for Ford it was possible to get almost everything they added to PIs in a civilian vehicle if you knew what to order. The Ride and Handling Package on a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis, for example, or (my personal favorite) The Ride Control Package or Touring Edition on the Lincoln Town car. For 20 years I owned a '96 Town Car with the Touring Package, and I'm convinced that all the heavy-duty equipment added a lot of life to that wonderful old car. The Marti report I had said less than 500 of the '96 Town Cars were equipped like mine.

What horsepower could you add? You couldn't order a DOHC engine for one.
