Can't raise windshield wipers?

in any case it's always a good idea to place a towel, cardboard, etc. under the wiper being changed so an accidental slip won't crack the windshield

Got the Frost Guard for the wife's C-RV. Even comes with socks for the side view mirrors. My Lariat has the headed wiper park and side view mirrors and I don't mine cleaning the windshield.

My theory is that the wiper recess was designed primarily as a leaf collection device. Mine sure filled up every day throughout the fall.

Drive really fast and they blow right out.

Reports that the Maverick windshields are THINNER than many inthe past, you're risking cracking it.

In the past, someone who worked where auto glass is made, posted that the Maverick windshield is not thinner than others.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to post the manual directions. Perhaps an unintended consequence is me noticing the "B" setting on the wiper control stalk reads "Intermittent/Auto". I get "intermittent", but "Auto" implies the wipers will operate automatically upon sensing water on the windshield. At least that is how "auto" works on many other vehicles. I haven't yet experienced this on my Lariat, so am I misinterpreting Ford's engineers/manual writers?

Since switching to that mode does cause action anyway, it's not possible to go there and have it start when it rains, have you noticed picking a low frequency and when rain or speed increases it speeds up?

I love this bit of wisdom from the manual:

Ok - the mere act of going to service position would seem to free them from snow & ice.
Except now you've probably ruined the blade with the movement.

And - switch wipers off before ignition off. But wait, switch vehicle off when in service position.

I think the shared Word doc they use needs a once over from the multiple updates before printing. Seen this in a couple other places too. It's like, making it confusing isn't giving you job security.


REPLACING THE FRONT WIPER BLADES

Note: For vehicles with a service position, make sure the windshield wipers are in this position before proceeding.
Note: You can use the service position to provide easier access to the wiper blades for freeing them from snow and ice.
Note: Switch the windshield wipers off before switching the ignition off.
Make sure your vehicle is off before beginning this procedure.

1. Move the wiper blades to the service position.

Note: To place the wiper arms in a service position, switch your vehicle on in accessory mode, switch on the wipers and switch your vehicle off when the wipers are at their highest position.
Note: Do not manually move the wiper arms to the service position unless the wiper path is obstructed by snow or ice.

Wait, am I missing something? So my Mavs wipers have a setting so that as soon as the windshield detects a few drops of rain they will come on? Sorry couldn’t resist.

Wait!! I thought automatic with rain drops was to Turn the RAIN ON!

It is a pain, but you can turn the truck off with wipers in mid sweep. Allowing you to raise them for the night's snowfall.
Same procedure that is used when you are changing the windshield

Just remember to clean the windshield AND place the wiper arms in thier normal position on the glass BEFORE turning your ignition on!!

You will likely not appreciate the result if you forget to do so.

The parked position of the wipers is so far below the point where the defroster hits the windshield, they never melt. It's awesome having a 2 foot long frozen wad of slush drag across the windshield........
We were considering buying the car after the lease is up, but as long as I am someplace where there's snow, I'm not sure I want to put up with this POS design for future winters.

My guess why the manual says to not manually move the wipers is that some people may rotate them way too far and break the mechanism. No more than normal operating movement (less than 90 degees for the driver side) should be manually attempted.

BTW, my 22 Lariat does not have the rain sensing wipers. My 19 Mazda CX-5 does...
