That's what I've seen too. I know on the little dial I have a couple lines and I have a couple raindrops. So I don't know if you put it on one of the raindrops then it'll wipe according to how much rain. Or if it's just four different speeds. My Guess would be that the setting saying ntermittent or auto wipe means that that position would be for whichever one your vehicle is equipped with.
I'm wondering if "Auto" means the intermittent feature is automated. I don't know if the Lariat is equipped with auto detection wipers. I suppose the best way to solve this mystery is see what happens in the rain.

2024 Maverick XLT (owned for 3 weeks) ….. tried to raise the windshield wipers for snow removal…
they don’t raise, the hood overlaps the space. What!? Now what? Didn’t try raising the hood… would hope I wouldn’t have to do that. And how would you change the blades?
The user manual tells you the procedure. Paper or .pdf version.

Ok.....so the manual says don't pull them into service position on your own (by literally using your hand to pull the wiper arm across your windshield until it clears the hood).

But I have seen videos of dealers doing exactly that. There are some dealerships who use a "raised wiper arm" as an indication that a vehicle is ready for some next step like being detailed, taking photos, being done with those steps and ready to be put on the lot for sale, etc....

So do it at your own discretion. But It IS possible to just move the wiper arm manually to the service position without turning on the truck. It doesn't seem to break anything.....at least not immediately.
I've done it many, many times. It won't hurt a thing.

Auto seemed to change the speed of the wipers based on the speed of the vehicle.

I just keep an empty windshield wiper fluid bottle and on rare Texas ice/snow on windshield;day I fill bottle with COLD TAP WATER AND POUR SLOWLY ON WINDSHIELD! Has worked very well since 1955 although originally I used gallon milk jugs or pitchers. Once however for an unknown reason in high school someone one very cold night smeared honey on my windshield. Couldn't prove a thing but it happened one week after I took my girlfriend's best friend to a dance. 😱😱
ETA: You think ICE is hard to clean off!!!

Didn't know you could simply move them without damage. Appreciate that feedback. Now I know.

Reports that the Maverick windshields are THINNER than many inthe past, you're risking cracking it.

Best thing to do is start vehicle with heater on (so hybrid ICE starts if applicable) then scrape the ice off, then drive gentle to warm vehicle up.

We live in michigan, like to leave the wipers "up" when it snows so they don't get iced in.apparently you can't do this with the maverick, but the area they park in is heated at least. Also don't try and lift them up with the hood down since you will scratch the paint on the edge of the hood!

It is a pain, but you can turn the truck off with wipers in mid sweep. Allowing you to raise them for the night's snowfall.
Same procedure that is used when you are changing the windshield wipers.

So if worried about cracking glass pay the ($15-$20?) ins rider for $0 deductable glass coverage). You can also mix 1/3 isopropyl alcohol with 2/3 water with 1/4 tsp dish soap and spray even warmer onto windshield.

It's a dumb design by Ford. 1st vehicle I've owned in 29 years of driving the wipers can't be flipped up.
I've seen this in many vehicles, including my Tesla Model 3.

in any case it's always a good idea to place a towel, cardboard, etc. under the wiper being changed so an accidental slip won't crack the windshield
