The Maverick is more then cool. Its crazy practical. Thats also what makes it so cool.

Ev is 100 percent the future but my guess is not boring EVs. Mach E is cool. Tesla are cool. Rivian is cool, Lightning is cool. Kia Kona not as practical or awesome as above.
left off Jeep wrangler 4xe - oh wait, plug in. But still cool with kinda EV. I noticed a lot of maverick buyers on this forum also have wranglers. Just FYI, we love the Jeep. But I am excited to get my maverick and expect it to be the choice on longer drives.

I agree completely, I don't have anything against EV's, but up here in the frozen waste lands of Maine where chargers a few and far between I prefer to have my own onboard charging device, So hybrid it is for me.

Interesting side note about charge stations in Maine, I work for the Maine Department of Transportation, and somewhere far up north we installed a charging station connected directly to a diesel generator...:ROFLMAO::unsure::rolleyes:
recent trip to SoCa for 6 weeks in Jeep 4xe. Looked up all places to charge, and it was minimal. best locations that where places we needed to go (grocery; malls) were occupied 80% of the time. So I think in 6 weeks, only got to recharge 3 times. If you are not returning to home within the range to charge or have a waiting charger at your destination (work), dont expect to recharge cost effectively. the chargers that we did find that were available cost as much as fueling up. EVs dont work anxiety free for travel, plan and simple.

OP have you asked this question on the Kona Car Club forum? You can also post picture of your new ride there.

1- We are getting 500 to 600 miles per tankful.
2- I would like to personally apologize on behalf of my Ukrainian friends for the inconvenience that their deaths are causing you.
3- You're a fucking idiot.

the maverick hybrid will cost me $90 of gas every 600 miles
the same 600 miles on the kona will cost me $20 at most
if only this stupid ukrenians / russian war could stop and gas could drop back to what it was.. would not mind paying $50 every 600 miles.

I'm in my 60s, and I would NEVER buy a car that wasn't cool.

The Maverick is fine. It's a budget vehicle. What adult buys a car because it's "cool" anyway?

Theft magnet??!
Where do you live, inside Grand Theft Auto?

Who cares, you have insurance, right?

And BTW- none of these are cool=> jeep wrangler, miata, harley, subaru (unless you had a Harley XR750, or an STi)

I had my share of cool stuff, i had two jeep wrangler, miata, harley, subaru…. But im getting older now..
both the maverick and the kona will be a step down for me,

i still like flashy cars, but not as much.. im maried to a gorgeous woman,, so i don't need to flash as much.

as im getting older i feel better driving a low profile vehicle that isn't theft magnet

Well I see quite a bit of people say they are in their 70s.. but I'm half that age, at 36, and what is "cool" is something that has long since stopped mattering to me. If it ever did?
Yep you are right. I'm in my 70s. I was cool now l'm not even chilly. I'll be cool again when I'm dead in the bed of my maverick.Rigo set in, tailgate half up wife driving me around the block.Thats if I ever get it.

I don’t see the dilemma. You’ve clearly picked the Kona and have rationalized a theory as to why. The time invested in the Maverick is sunk cost. Buy the Kona and move on.

Heya

its a tough decision I must make this week.

i must admit, 8 months ago, The maverick hybrid wasn't my first pick.
i've always wanted an EV vehicle, like Tesla.. but EV are so dam expensive upfront. And the waiting time to get an EV is even longer.

And mainly because all the EV in 2019-2020-2021 had recalls, fire hazards, limited range, last summer i decided to order the maverick hybrid,
So the maverick hybrid was just a backup plan.

As im typing this, my Maverick hybrid is in production with Sent to Plant status according to the vin. in a month it will be in my hand.
the Hybrid i ordered is an xlt with sunroof, copilot, hard dropin bed, hard roll up tonneau, blue velocity.

the salesman did a great job securing the order, we spoke over the phone like 7 or 8 times since we initiated the order, each time , we spent over an hour on the phone together just talking and chatting about life. We almost became good friend . He is probably the best salesman i know,, with over 20 years experience with Ford,(but i know, this should be business and strictly business). But i will definately feel bad if i have to call him to cancel my order after everything we went through,

the reason i want to cancel, is that i have a chance to grab a 2019 used Hyundai Kona EV

the kona EV is about $ 6K more expensive and has 13k miles already.
there is a recall on Kona battery.. and they are pined to 90% due to fire issue. it is the color ive wanted with a sunroof.

but it is also a small vehicle..

the maverick on the other hand is a bigger vehicle, allows you to do light offroading, but cost 5 times in gas to operate and probably theft magnet,

the maverick hybrid will cost me $90 of gas every 600 miles
the same 600 miles on the kona will cost me $20 at most
if only this stupid ukrenians / russian war could stop and gas could drop back to what it was.. would not mind paying $50 every 600 miles.
but gas price won't return to what it was.. and it may keep going up..
45 mpg was great in 2018 but it is nothing in 2022.. you need 125mpg to equal an ev car.

im not a truck guy, i don't carry tools, im not into construction business or anything, i don't haul, but we do travel and do campground (light offroading)
i hate theft for some reasons, and so far thieves aren’t looking for ev.

so here i am.. don't know what to do.

2022 maverick hybrid made of cheap plastic or a kona ev 2019 with recalls and fire hazard..
Easy. Get both. When the Hundy catches fire you'll have the Maverick.

Only comment to make is, how accessible are power stations near where you drive, and if you take it out of your area, are you prepared to deal with stopping where they are located, versus where you want to go?

A full hybrid (which I own a non-ford one) is always able to fill up at a gas station. I get 42 mpg consistently when I am 80/20 city/hwy and about 38 mpg when 50/50. it has an 11 gallon tank that goes quite the distance without a half hour to hour charge to keep going.

Either way, get what suits how you drive, not the cool, trendy, theft or anything else.

One of your main arguments against the Mav is that it might be stolen. I’m not clear on why that might be more common than any other new vehicle.

also, you mention cheap plastic in the Mav, but overlook the quality issues of the Kona. My wife and I went for a test drive in the Kona, nd it seemed a little lower quality than we wanted. But to buy the Kona with those known issues seems a little rash.

you do you, but to me, it sounds like you’re trying to talk yoitself out of the Mav. 40 mpg is pretty good for a vehicle of its size.

and lastly, the Mav will be easier to get in and out of, which is no small consideration to me, especially after having rented a Corolla a couple of weeks ago.

I see a lot of older people on this forum. I don't know that "cool" matters... it certainly does not to me. I've had my share of "cool" cars, but I honestly could not care less these days what is perceived as cool or not or whatever. Does it work for me? Meet my needs? That's cool to me.
Is it cool that itā€˜s a hybrid pickup? I think so. Old guy here, so maybe I don’t know what’s cool anymore.
