And what is that news? C’mon, we can take it…
Some Hyundais/Kias are able to be stolen with nothing more than a screwdriver or plugging in via a USB port on the steering column. In some locales it's a big issue with thefts and destroyed steering columns to the point that insurance companies won't even cover them.

Only one point about the future of Ev's They wont get better for taking long trips. it will get far far worse. Why you ask, as there will be more charge stations. With more and more EV sales those extra charge stations will all now be FULL with a long lines. I have traveled a fair amount and been at gas stations with very long lines. Now imagine those were all EV cars waiting to charge for at least 20 minutes. Most longer like 40 minutes. it will only get worse. We have millions of gas stations yet you see lines all the time especially along travel routes. Was near Rhode Island a few summers ago. Stopped for gas on highway. holly crap a lot of cars for gas. Can't imagine if they were all EV cars.

One of your main arguments against the Mav is that it might be stolen. I’m not clear on why that might be more common than any other new vehicle.

also, you mention cheap plastic in the Mav, but overlook the quality issues of the Kona. My wife and I went for a test drive in the Kona, nd it seemed a little lower quality than we wanted. But to buy the Kona with those known issues seems a little rash.

you do you, but to me, it sounds like you’re trying to talk yoitself out of the Mav. 40 mpg is pretty good for a vehicle of its size.

and lastly, the Mav will be easier to get in and out of, which is no small consideration to me, especially after having rented a Corolla a couple of weeks ago.
nah, im not trying to convince myself not to buy the maverick hybrid.. just trying to find the perfect one that i will use for the next 5 or 6 years atleast.

like i said in a previous post, the maverick will be my first pickup shape vehicle.. i never had a pickup vehicle before. Im not a construction nor a farmer guy. im a city guy who happen to do light offroading in the summer...

with suv shaped vehicles.. i can just throw stuff in the back and not worry about weather condition. Stuff won't get wet or frozen.. im used to that.. but hybrid suv are just overpriced.. The one i ordered, Xlt hybrid, sunroof, copilot, lux package and hard tonneau… came out cheaper than every EV. But not by much either.. but because we like to camp and do a little light offroading. i though maybe the maverick would give enough ground clearance. Unlike A toyota prius which is way too close to the ground , especially the front and the easy to grab catalyc. The new crosstrek plugin 2022 was just too expensive and they are all sold out.

Theft? i wish i could live in gta, because if you lose your car in gta atleast you can get another vehicle and not worry about waiting list..

It must be where I live because I'm always surprised to read people being concerned about car theft. I don't know of any person in my extended circle of friends/family to have ever experienced it. It's also never in the news here. I'm not saying, obviously, that it doesn't happen - just that it doesn't seem to happen here.

Personally, if someone does steal one of mine - keep it, please. I never want it back. I recently picked up a 2022 Civic for my mother and the dealer tried to add LoJack as part of their "ADMs parading as added value features". It was a real fight to get them to leave it off. I can't understand why anyone wants it.

you just happen to live in a low crime area.

here, people steal everything, even your outdoor christmas and garden lights.. we got tons of organized and unorganized crimes in the city. people are getting shot every week…

i know quite a few who got their catalyc stolen… i don't live in gta, Gta is actually inspired by places like where
people live.
the new trend is beacon gps trackers attached to wheel well or bumper.. they track you down and grab your car at night…

Why do people feel the need to start a tread like this....hint no one cares. I'm in it for the long haul. I ordered what I wanted, and will wait.

Only way I get anything else is if dealer does not adhere to price. But I'm not gonna blast the news on this forum with nonsense about a different vehicle cause I'm tired of waiting. :)

I like this thread because OP is on a forum 100 percent dedicated to Maverick enthusiasts and is asking people opinion on not getting a Maverick. Lol your not going to find conformation bias to purchase a Kona here! If it was the other way around yes you would.

There have been lots of good post in this thread. The Maverick is just a better vehicle over the Kona all the way around.

How long will it take to fill that 6k price increase in terms of fuel costs?

Lets do some math.
Kona has a range of 258 miles and costs 20 dollars to charge
Maverick has a range of around 550 miles with a tank of 13.8 gallons US average gas is $4.14 as of right now. This is 57 dollars to fill it up.
This works out to 40mpg lots of people getting over 600 miles single tank btw.

Cost per mile math
20 dollars divided by 258 miles equals 7.75 cents per mile
57 divided by 550 equals 10.36 cents per mile

So its 10,360 dollars worth of fuel per 100k miles in the Maverick vs 7,750 dollars of electricity for 100k miles in the Kona.

It will take around 225,000 miles to break even. This is fuel/energy costs alone other factors are certainly involved. If you live in a cold weather area the EV will get around 35% less range than the advertised number.

Ok, now I'm shifting from " this dude is paranoid" to "this dude REALLY lives in a sketchy area" mode.

Please- do your family a favor... FUCKING MOVE. It's a big wide world, and there are many places you will be happier and safer.

If you can afford a new car, you can afford a moving van.

im not a big fan of toyota, you may find it strange but toyota cars interior have too much plastics feel..
they might be reliable but they are boring to drive.

no i can not buy the maverick and sell it right after to make a profit.

the salesman asked me not to do that because apparently Ford Head quarter don't like that..
he said he trusted me not to do that, it may hurts his name.

If i want to sell it i should wait and drive the vehicle atleast few months.

by the way, a few people sent me private messages asking to take over my order.. unfortunately, for you guys, my dealer have a huge list already and they will follow that list if i decide to cancel,
what?

Its your vehicle if you buy it. You can do whatever you want with it including selling it.
The dealer wants you to give up your order desperately because they will make a ton of money on it. They will take your retail order and resell it(ford dont like that...) with a 10k ADM added to it. Its how these dealers are able to offer retail orders below invoice. They know around 30 percent of people are not going to pick their vehicle up after 8 months of waiting. It allows them to get mavericks or broncos ect onto their lots. Its not a scam or anything like that as people will pay w/e they think something is worth.

Carvanna has offered to buy many mavericks from people on here for 5k over MSRP.

not this Ford dealer im doing business with, they don't do that. New cars coming on the truck are sold msrp, the only exception are used cars or lease returns., they put any price they want, This dealer sell new cars msrp.. the same price you see online,

if you see a Ford dealer overpricing your reservation, run

if they have one in stock overpriced, its not a cancelled order, but most likely something they got for them self.

it would be too easy for a dishonest dealer to push a client to cancel his order, like low balling your trade in vehicle to make you angry and leave.
so they can sell your oder to better offer.

Ford HQ don't approve bad commercial practice.

You think Toyota’s have a too much plastics feel? The Maverick won’t be any better. Sorry to tell ya. It’s one of the cheapest plastics I have owned in a vehicle.

Heya

its a tough decision I must make this week.

i must admit, 8 months ago, The maverick hybrid wasn't my first pick.
i've always wanted an EV vehicle, like Tesla.. but EV are so dam expensive upfront. And the waiting time to get an EV is even longer.

And mainly because all the EV in 2019-2020-2021 had recalls, fire hazards, limited range, last summer i decided to order the maverick hybrid,
So the maverick hybrid was just a backup plan.

As im typing this, my Maverick hybrid is in production with Sent to Plant status according to the vin. in a month it will be in my hand.
the Hybrid i ordered is an xlt with sunroof, copilot, hard dropin bed, hard roll up tonneau, blue velocity.

the salesman did a great job securing the order, we spoke over the phone like 7 or 8 times since we initiated the order, each time , we spent over an hour on the phone together just talking and chatting about life. We almost became good friend . He is probably the best salesman i know,, with over 20 years experience with Ford,(but i know, this should be business and strictly business). But i will definately feel bad if i have to call him to cancel my order after everything we went through,

the reason i want to cancel, is that i have a chance to grab a 2019 used Hyundai Kona EV

the kona EV is about $ 6K more expensive and has 13k miles already.
there is a recall on Kona battery.. and they are pined to 90% due to fire issue. it is the color ive wanted with a sunroof.

but it is also a small vehicle..

the maverick on the other hand is a bigger vehicle, allows you to do light offroading, but cost 5 times in gas to operate and probably theft magnet,

the maverick hybrid will cost me $90 of gas every 600 miles
the same 600 miles on the kona will cost me $20 at most
if only this stupid ukrenians / russian war could stop and gas could drop back to what it was.. would not mind paying $50 every 600 miles.
but gas price won't return to what it was.. and it may keep going up..
45 mpg was great in 2018 but it is nothing in 2022.. you need 125mpg to equal an ev car.

im not a truck guy, i don't carry tools, im not into construction business or anything, i don't haul, but we do travel and do campground (light offroading)
i hate theft for some reasons, and so far thieves aren’t looking for ev.

so here i am.. don't know what to do.

2022 maverick hybrid made of cheap plastic or a kona ev 2019 with recalls and fire hazard..

Where did you get that math from? At 40MPg that's 1 5 gallons ,most place it's 4 bucks a gallon or 60 bucks for the fuel (unless you're in CA or somewhere). Also, with the new mav you get full repair coverage for 3 years, not sure how much of that used KIA coverage is transferable to you the new owner. I don't see the sense of paying 6K more for a few year old vehicle that is known to have problems instead of going forward and buying what you really want. I think you're trying to talk yourself out of the Mav but it seems like that is more based on the small difference in fuel costs, you'd have to drive many many miles to make up that 6K difference and then live thru the battery recall and the lesser warranty aspects. I guess I don't get why this is even a question.
