I've considered the ones that are ONLY battery and I would think it uncool to be looking for somewhere to charge and the wait. I'm sure it will get better with time but until then, I'll take the Mav.
I agree completely, I don't have anything against EV's, but up here in the frozen waste lands of Maine where chargers a few and far between I prefer to have my own onboard charging device, So hybrid it is for me.

Interesting side note about charge stations in Maine, I work for the Maine Department of Transportation, and somewhere far up north we installed a charging station connected directly to a diesel generator...:ROFLMAO::unsure::rolleyes:

Heya

its a tough decision I must make this week.

i must admit, 8 months ago, The maverick hybrid wasn't my first pick.
i've always wanted an EV vehicle, like Tesla.. but EV are so dam expensive upfront. And the waiting time to get an EV is even longer.

And mainly because all the EV in 2019-2020-2021 had recalls, fire hazards, limited range, last summer i decided to order the maverick hybrid,
So the maverick hybrid was just a backup plan.

As im typing this, my Maverick hybrid is in production with Sent to Plant status according to the vin. in a month it will be in my hand.
the Hybrid i ordered is an xlt with sunroof, copilot, hard dropin bed, hard roll up tonneau, blue velocity.

the salesman did a great job securing the order, we spoke over the phone like 7 or 8 times since we initiated the order, each time , we spent over an hour on the phone together just talking and chatting about life. We almost became good friend . He is probably the best salesman i know,, with over 20 years experience with Ford,(but i know, this should be business and strictly business). But i will definately feel bad if i have to call him to cancel my order after everything we went through,

the reason i want to cancel, is that i have a chance to grab a 2019 used Hyundai Kona EV

the kona EV is about $ 6K more expensive and has 13k miles already.
there is a recall on Kona battery.. and they are pined to 90% due to fire issue. it is the color ive wanted with a sunroof.

but it is also a small vehicle..

the maverick on the other hand is a bigger vehicle, allows you to do light offroading, but cost 5 times in gas to operate and probably theft magnet,

the maverick hybrid will cost me $90 of gas every 600 miles
the same 600 miles on the kona will cost me $20 at most
if only this stupid ukrenians / russian war could stop and gas could drop back to what it was.. would not mind paying $50 every 600 miles.
but gas price won't return to what it was.. and it may keep going up..
45 mpg was great in 2018 but it is nothing in 2022.. you need 125mpg to equal an ev car.

im not a truck guy, i don't carry tools, im not into construction business or anything, i don't haul, but we do travel and do campground (light offroading)
i hate theft for some reasons, and so far thieves aren’t looking for ev.

so here i am.. don't know what to do.

2022 maverick hybrid made of cheap plastic or a kona ev 2019 with recalls and fire hazard..
For a brief moment while I was reading your story I thought you may have bought my 2019 Hyundai Kona EV! I sold mine in January because of the battery recall, reduced range capabilities, too small area to haul stuff, rear seats that don’t fold down flat, no spare tire, easily dented body and more road noise than I could handle! Forgot to mention the number of times the battery died! The best thing about that car was the “jackrabbit” starts at a traffic light👍🏻

I feel like I hit the jackpot with my Maverick Lariat which is so much quieter, has as many if not more bells and whistles, can load all kinds of stuff and still have a back seat and made $10,000 (difference between what I sold the Kona for and bought my FE Lariat) which will pay for a lot of gas!

sorry, it wouldn’t be a tough decision for me!

Dear Jeep owner,

did not choose to fight a war and jack up your gas prices. Go ahead and buy that Kona. You will drive it until they build you a new Maverick or you can finally get your hands on a Mach-E/ Tesla. And if you do some research you will find out the Federal government gives out $7,500 tax credit towards a purchase of a NEW EV. You gotta be a real jeep owner to buy used Hyundai in this current market. And provided you are buying your Maverick at MSRP, you will be buying it under value. It will be so easy to get out of it. But hey... who am I to tell what to do. Tell your friend to give you the deposit back and buy some extended warranty on that roller skate.
Best regards,
Your friendly neighborhood Ford salesman

this isn't an ukrenian post.
its not my gas btw, it is also yours

i didn't create this topic to have it locked because you are pro war.

if you do more research you will notice that nobody can buy EV car.. the waiting time is close to two years.. for your $7k .

I'm curious as to why you wouldn't take possession of the Maverick and then immediately sell it. They are in high demand and even Carmax and similar places are giving well over MSRP. Make a few thousand yourself instead of letting the dealership make it.

Yo I might be insane but google is saying Kona EV has a 5k towing capacity lol. Maybe it’s like Santa Cruz where it’s really more like 2000 unless you have trailer brakes, which would make sense.

I think it’s cool, EV + trailer vs hybrid Maverick would be a tough choice on my end IF you get a great deal. I did the calculus myself and simply couldn’t find a good deal an EV, and also the utility of the bed was a bigger priority, and I didn’t want range anxiety. But EV vehicle will probably be my next. Or plugin hybrid at least.
Maybe the new Kona’s can tow but the 2019 was a definite no tow capabilities!

Mach-E is fairly available. No wait. They are in stock. Mostly Select models, which are the cheapest. Not sure how you got the impression I am pro war, but it very insensible to mention Ukrainians in your post when you live in the richest country in the world and complain about gas prices.

I had a similar dilemma and choice to make. I ordered my Ford Maverick Hybrid last June, sight unseen. I'd had a hybrid previously and was inspired that a small pickup (that actually looks like a pickup truck) would be created with a hybrid power train. Waiting the 8 months for delivery gave me plenty of time to consider alternatives that might result in a better outcome than waiting for a vehicle I'd never even experienced in real life.
While I was considering alternatives and weighing cost versus benefit, I encountered an offer that was almost unreal. If I decided not to take my Maverick after waiting so long, I knew that the dealer would be happy to resell and tack on a hefty ADM. Still, would I regret my decision later if I decided to go with an alternative? My choice was clear - continue to wait for and receive my Maverick Hybrid Lariat as ordered, or opt instead for a lifetime supply of Vegemite. I admit there was no shortage of sleepless nights while I tossed and turned, lost in the throws of indecision.
Then it happened that I passed an actual Ford Maverick on the street. I was able to see the size in proportion to other vehicles and also the smile on the driver's face as they silently pulled away from the stoplight in their hybrid pickup truck. I went home and did a little more research online and discovered that the majority of Ford Maverick owners love their vehicles, while feedback from people who have tried Vegemite have shown a much lower percentage of people who provided positive feedback. The evidence leaned heavily on the Maverick being the smarter choice.
Needless to say I received my Maverick Lariat Hybrid Pickup in late March and am happy that I made what I consider to be the better choice!

One taste of Vegemite was a lifetime supply for me ...

Let's see ..... Hyundai makes the Kona (fire and recalls) and the Santa Cruz. Both initially are/were great ideas.

But they appear impractical: both lack storage/hauling (yeah, so the SC has the hidden bed compartment, woo-hoo), both are expensive, and Hyundai designed it for Hyundai and NOT the DIYer or the customer in mind.

As a Prius V and Sonata PHEV owner, I bought the Maverick because it uses the best of both worlds since the Motor Generator (or regen) acts like an internal PHEV (EV Coach helps you view it), and Ford's eMotor design is similar setup of the Performance/Long Range rear Tesla eMotor.

Whichever way you go, best of luck.

I have had a Ford Fusion Hybrid for 4 years now. I get on average 45 mpg and spend no where near $90 every 600 miles. I get 550 miles per tank of gas and right now it cost me about $60 to fill the tank. I can tell you with great confidence that you will not spend $90 for every 600 miles you drive. I can also tell you that electric rate are going up and will continue to go higher and there is no end in sight for that either. I cannot wait to get my Mav FE hybrid in another month or so. I think you should reconsider.
I noticed that the cost of electricity to charge EVs is not mentioned when the cost of gasoline for hybrids is brought up. I considered a Tesla when you could get in one for around 35G. I commute about 130 miles round trip daily, and after considering the cost of the charging system and then the kwh to charge the vehicle, there was no advantage. That was when gasoline was much less expensive so it might be a different story now.
BTW, took delivery of my XLT Hybrid (Lux/360) last week and so far it's absolutely great; I think you'll be happy with yours when you get it

Sounds like a Rav4 Prime could be a good fit for your needs. Obviously, it's easier said than done. But if you can take delivery of your Mav, sell the Mav for a little profit to go towards the higher cost of the prime, then when the Prime finally comes take advantage of the [up to] $7500 tax credit. Then you got a reliable vehicle, your electric only range for short commutes, your hybrid capability for longer trips, and a climate controlled interior for sleeping.

@fordvideoguy thank you for the great video and information!

Just wanted to confirm something that I believe was said in previous discussions.

If you ordered a Lariat Hybrid First Edition, it will be built for MY22?

I ordered August 2021, so I'm hoping I'll be getting a production date in the coming weeks. Just trying to be patient and hold out hope.

im not a big fan of toyota, you may find it strange but toyota cars interior have too much plastics feel..
they might be reliable but they are boring to drive.

no i can not buy the maverick and sell it right after to make a profit.

the salesman asked me not to do that because apparently Ford Head quarter don't like that..
he said he trusted me not to do that, it may hurts his name.

If i want to sell it i should wait and drive the vehicle atleast few months.

by the way, a few people sent me private messages asking to take over my order.. unfortunately, for you guys, my dealer have a huge list already and they will follow that list if i decide to cancel,

Your salesman is giving you BS. You have every right to sell it. He is hoping you will refuse delivery and he can pocket a huge markup by selling it to someone else.
