My dealer said it’s more than software and it’s not the camera. Same camera in those with Sync.

Curious.?.
I KNOW the camera is a Fed-Mandated thing. (I Have no problem with that, Modern drivers are.. IDIOTS).
I have used the camera (as assistance) since I got the truck (25 months now) when I creep, backing out of my garage..
Ford Maverick Camera Recall is Absolute Pain March252023_snow (2) supersmall

And when I am at work. (People racing home.. Idiots at work...).
I have ONLY noticed any issue JUST ONCE..

Do we know how many times, this has been a serious issue??
How many... Accidents caused by..
How many... Dirvers report an EVENT?

Depreciation, would be a major factor for ME, as well...

I'll go back to what I said before, I believe it will require the camera to be physically replaced. When I ran into the same issue with the Explorer, it was six months until I could take it home and despite Ford's constant effort for a software fix, the issue was deemed to be the camera itself. The camera vendor used tin instead of gold on its connections. Tin corrodes, which it why using it in an outdoor setting is stupid but also why Ford took forever to figure that out.
My '22 has had several camera freeze situations and I've had the whole infotainment system freeze without the camera activated. I think the "camera" recall has more to do with the system itself and was only issued as a recall because it can affect the use of the backup camera.

I'm in the same spot, we put $500 down a few days after the stop sale, on the promise it wouldn't be long. Best we hear now is March. Anything past that and we're probably jumping to another brand.

The dealer's back lot is open to the public so we've checked it a few times, no fading or damage so far.

As far as not understanding why we'd wait, someone explain to me why some people waited a year or more for the 22s.
Because it only cost $22k

I'm being dramatic, but I went and bought a 24 maverick XL in November, still waiting to take possession. Anybody else in the same boat?
My experience—got a new job (yay!) but have to buy a vehicle, as my old job provided a company car and the new one does not. Will be driving the state of GA 4 days a week and wanted a truck, so naturally I sought out a Maverick—lots of ‘24s on the lots and the advertised prices were great, so off I go. Then I found out why…can’t wait on the recall, so I am the proud owner of the ‘25 XLT! Dealer worked with me on the price so ended up fine, plus I liked the larger screens better than the ‘24. Mind-blowing it’s taking so long to resolve the issue though.

Meanwhile, your truck is sitting outdoors in a lot, likely depreciating every day; as the paint, trim and headlight lenses fade, and haze over in the sun. And the battery ages.

Since the camera recall is taking so long, it's very likely a hardware problem. And Ford doesn't have sufficient replacement parts stocked yet to fix the problem.
I am thinking the same. The 'infotainment' system is rubbish. It can't reliably stream music from my phone. The sound drops out randomly, whether connected wirelessly or wired. It will randomly shut down the audio, the rear speakers pop, and then the audio returns. These hiccups are hardware related, and the backup camera is using the same rubbish hardware.

It's sorta a tangent, but I worry that these sorts of recalls and stop selling holds will become the new norm with so much sensor based safety and driver aid tech being loaded onto vehicles, often on top of very legacy infrastructure (in this case Sync 3) that was not originally designed for it. It's nice to have the backup camera, but drivers should not be 100% reliant on it for the safe operation of the vehicle, same for forward collision assist, blind spot warning, lane assist, radar cruise...

Having said that, has anyone bought a Maverick in the past few months where they got totally duped, not knowing about this? If I was getting a $3K+ discount, I would probably roll the dice on being able to take possession in Q1.

If it ends up being a hardware upgrade it's going to cost them parts + 2 hours of labor. $500 a truck x 289k.
Which equals $144,500,000. Now that's a good chunk of change where I went to school. :cwl:

I'm sure a lot of people are in the same boat and Ford still does not have an estimate on when a fix will be available...
My very small local dealer has forty-eight 2024 Mavs shown in it's inventory. They sold all the '24 Lariats. They customarily display the price but for the '24's it says "call for price".

They have four 2025 Mav's - one hybrid and one EB show a discount from sticker of -$1000. The Eruption green and Tremor do not show a discount.

No. 1, glad I have the truck now.
No. 2, 15 months since new, the camera working fine.
No. 3, if camera quits, I use the mirrors, will govt come after me when I ignore the recall?
No. 4, the neighbors need keep their cats n dogs away. Coyote and feral hogs are different issue. Not kidding…had a peacock in our driveway.

Bob,
Add the $169,000,000 FINE 😂
Seems to me that if Ford had just installed the Sync system that's in the Lariat in the first place they would be money ahead at this point. Sometimes being cheap cost more money.
I have no sympathy for Ford. I hope they take an absolute bath on this one.

That was my point also.

In addition, the $169 million + Bob the Builder's $144 million estimate are static estimates. That is, they don't include lost sales that Ford might have had, i.e. buyers who went on to buy something else instead of the 24 Maverick they couldn't get. Yes, I understand the dealers themselves are most likely to be screwed on it but even that flows into the longer term ramifications. For example, what incentives might Ford have to offer when the 24's are available to be legally sold/used to help the dealer move them? What are the ramifications of dealers going under because they have a sh*t ton of Mavericks sitting in inventory that they can't move or have to pay ongoing interest costs on THEIR loans. And so on.

As you indicated (and I also), penny wise and pound foolish.

I think there should be a legal end-run available in situations like this, where the owner can sign a waiver that exempts the OEM from liability and allows the vehicle to be sold. Well-intended laws often carry unintended consequences, and backup cameras definitely fall into the "noncritical" bucket. After all, the Big Fix for the 2.5L engine grenading was a software patch that detected it after the fact, and Takata airbags took years to address.

It bankrupted Takata

It could be months, by the time lawyers draw up properly worded waivers.
And then a sharp lawyer would convince a jury that there was too much fine print for the average citizen to understand what they were signing.
I'm going to go out on a very long limb and say they'll be no waivers, no end runs, no executive actions.
