Most of the time. I usually look to the right look to the left, I use a rear view mirror. Then I kind of glance at the camera. The main thing I use the camera for is when I'm backing into the driveway I use the camera to see the distance to the garage so I can line it up perfectly. But I will be honest I don't use the camera that often.
And that's what I wanted to know. I do the same thing, use my mirrors and turn my head, old habit. My point is, because we don't watch the camera all the time, we may be missing when it glitches and freezes. It could be happening and we're just missing it. Most of the time the camera is an afterthought.
I do depend on it more when I'm backing out from in between two large Vehicles. The camera is further back than what I can see and has a wide angle of view.

That's what I figured. When I first read your question and I started typing my answer my first thought was maybe it is glitching and I just don't see it because I don't use it all that much.

I'll go back to what I said before, I believe it will require the camera to be physically replaced. When I ran into the same issue with the Explorer, it was six months until I could take it home and despite Ford's constant effort for a software fix, the issue was deemed to be the camera itself. The camera vendor used tin instead of gold on its connections. Tin corrodes, which it why using it in an outdoor setting is stupid but also why Ford took forever to figure that out.
Lariats use the same camera and aren't affected. Ford's official, documented findings to the NHTSA from testing are that it's a memory leak issue with the software.

👍 Oh, I don't think you or I are the only ones who have missed the camera glitching and freezing.

OP, I don't think you're being dramatic. It sucks to have your vehicle sitting on a lot because of a technicality. I get that law is law, but it seems like the feds could say "hey, you can deliver this to the customer as long as you fix it within 12 months or you buy it back". The feds issue waivers for everything and anything all the time.

And I say that as a big fan of the camera recall. It's just that government bureaucrats should use common sense just like the rest of us.

I feel the same way as you Darnon. I don't think it's a camera problem either I think it's the Connected Radio software.
This picture and post is from different thread. I thought that it was kind of interesting what came up on the screen.
Yesterday I was driving and had my camera freeze again. But this time I also had a message in the upper left corner: "Indexing Nexus".
A clue?
I have never used a USB drive for music, which most info I found referred to. In fact, I've never installed a thumb drive in the vehicle.

Could this be the software Ford is using on non lariats? I'm not a technique so I have no idea if this is relevant or not

It's too bad you can't say if the truck is mine I want the keys, so nobody jacks with it while it is on the lot and you can order replacement keys while you are waiting - then it's time for a little "midnight requisition".

Wow, what a change that would be. The gov't agency I have to deal with the most is the VA. They need a huge infusion of that common sense thing.

I am guessing that "Your" (yes I know it's not really you) truck really isn't yours. It maybe "spoken for" by you, by means of an order or a deposit.
I'll bet the final acceptance paperwork hasn't been signed.

Yup, same boat except I didn't trade anything for the truck. I'm retired and patient. Still frustrating that you could slap a $50 camera system in and have no problems.

As far as not understanding why we'd wait, someone explain to me why some people waited a year or more for the 22s.
I waited 13 months for my '23 to be built, during the supply chain shortages period. But the truck didn't even exist the majority of my waiting time.
It's not the wait, it's the fact that these stop-sale trucks are sitting out in the weather, and all the deterioration that can lead to.

My understanding is the Lariats use the same camera and screen as the XL/XLT, but a different module that handles the camera/entertainment system(basically the main computer of the system) and the bug has to do with the lower end version that's used in the XL/XLT

The amusing thing (to me) is to ponder how much Ford thought they were saving by not using the normal Sync3 system but instead a presumably cost-reduced special version for the XLT/XL. How many additional people, how much new SW etc were required initially vs. the reduced HW cost...and NOW how much cost w/this issue.

I say "amusing" but not really as I am a Ford stock holder and their warranty issues are absolutely killing them.

If it ends up being a hardware upgrade it's going to cost them parts + 2 hours of labor. $500 a truck x 289k.

When backing up in your Maverick. How much do you use your mirrors and turn your head?
I fully use my backup camera and VR the past year that I have had my truck have never had a problem with the camera the only problem I have run into is the trailer connection goes haywire sometimes and dose not recognize the trailer lights
