Really impressed with the DIY ethos on display here!

I'm going to stick with just putting the clamps on for now but seriously impressed.

It only takes a minute for me and I have a perfectly round hole in the engine slash shield right at the front where I run the cord out. I wonder if others do as well? Look straight down.

Maybe Ford should consider what you lot have done (easy extension plug to maintainer) as an option for hybrids.

Does your heated visor work with batteries or is it reachable? Pretty sure it wouldn't carry 120 V. But perhaps someone who actually knows what they are talking about can chime in.
Oh, my mistake. I was thinking the vehicle would have the 12 volt side connected from the tender to the vehicle. That's how mine is. The tender is mounted on the garage wall.

If the tender was vehicle mounted and it was 120 V to the vehicle, then this certainly wouldn't work.

The snowmobile heated shields are 12 volt and I believe less than 2 amps. The are usually powered by the snowmobile, but some could be battery.

I made that same mistake earlier in the thread. My setup is like yours and the battery charger/maintainer is external to the vehicle and the plug from the unit to the vehicle is DC. Folks like @Old_Norm are using a charger/maintainer that's mounted under-hood to be used only with that vehicle. That's not a setup I would need, but I can understand the desire to have it that way if you want to charge anywhere--away from your base charger or outside in the driveway.

I ran a fused dc port to the grill. Hard to find a crevice to run the wires through.

This worked good for a while till the cheap plastic hinge broke and the cover fell off. I have a quick disconnect under the hood now. Opening the hood once a week is not that big of a chore…..

Laid the connector for the charger on top of the air intake grate and secured with a zip tie. No need to open the hood. Just make sure to put it back on the grate when finished so it won't wind up in the wiper well. One wrap of the cord around the mirror provides strain relief and visibility so I don't drive off and rip the charger out of the wall.
Thanks goodness I have a loud blinker. How embarrassing would it be driving down the road dragging a battery charger AND leaving your blinker on for miles?

Where did you attach the negative terminal to ground it? I bought a tender and want to do a similar setup but trying to find the best place for the ground wire.

I attached the ground to one of the fender bolts.

Ahh, makes sense. Unfortunately, I have a catch can mounted in that spot and I'm not to keen on attaching the negative terminal to something that can have fuel vapors in it. Thanks

No problems. My battery maintainer is low current, <2 amps. If you're concerned, check the resistance with a meter. Mine is less than 1 ohm from the nut on the bolt to the factory ground lug.

I've had my charger quick connect in several months. I use it with a 15A battery tender.
Went out to see where I hooked up ground, it's on the horn bracket.

The quick connect (Anderson PowerPole) sits next to the horn at top left.

That was one of the spots I was looking but I didn't know if it would be a good idea to attach it to another electrical device. I'm assuming you had no issues with this setup.
No problems at all..
