When I returned from a 9-day trip, my new Maverick was in deep, deep sleep mode. A Noco GB40 couldn't jump it, so I am planning to install a battery maintainer. I decided on a Noco Genius 2 and lean toward 2D which I'd like to permanently mount under the rear seat. The question is: where should I ground it?

There are so many decision points here. I'd mount the 2D under the hood where it is clear where to attach and ground it but I'm not sure where to mount it. For this reason, I've decided to install under the rear seat where I could easily run a power cord out the window when the truck is parked for longer periods of inactivity. I could also keep a maintainer in the garage and clamp it under the hood when needed.

I am fully capable of messing up any installation so I look for an idiot-proof way to mount/attach/use the maintainer.

BTW, the deep sleep mode really through me for a loop. I bought the GB40 because i read in advance of delivery that the battery could be a problem. But then being unable to start the truck gave me a really uneasy feeling about its reliability. I've never owned a vehicle that I worried about starting.

Follow the ground cable. It mounts to the floorpan right near the base of the battery and the battery vent grommet.

Get a noco genius 5, as a portion of the 2 amps will be going to run whatever the truck wants to prior to charging the battery. A portion of the 5 amps will also "disappear" but a much larger percentage will enter the battery. I wonder why the gb 40 would not do it? I am assuming you were using the jump pins under hood.
ETA: IM GUESSING that you put the "charged and turned on" GB40 onto the battery and the battery was removed from the circuit and no power could get to the computer to turn it on. If gb40 was attached to jump pins, charged, and turned on the computer should be running and be able to do start up procedure.
