That sounds damn close to being shady!! :cautious: :cautious:
It's about marketing, and how everything is worded, when you get your VIN# keep checking your dealer's website, your truck will appear too. Get people excited, they down to the dealer and they are told they are late as they are sold already. Then they either try and upsell you to a ranger or have you order what you want.

It still sounds shady to me, because they are knowing putting out information to attract customers under a false pretense. They make it appear there are Mavericks available for sale on their lot, yet they know that is not true and will use the opportunity, falsely created, to try and sell something else. I get that it's a marketing ploy, but it still sounds like a shady way to do business. It would make me wonder what other things they are doing.
And when the blessed day arrives that I have a Maverick VIN I'll certainly check my dealership's website to see if they do the same thing. I guess I like to believe that companies do their best to honest and upfront about what they have to sell and are selling.

Have you heard of the term Lost Leader before? For example, Ford dealer places an ad in the newspaper. 2021 Escape SE $20,500 you call the dealer, they tell you YES we have the car, you get to the dealer in 15 minutes speak to a salesman, the salesman goes "gets the keys" he returns and says, "Man, they just sold THAT escape, but I have for $22,000" classic bait and switch. When that ad went to the newspaper 2 days prior they had that one special Escape, but it was sold. These is classic tactics used at dealers.....

I have heard of bait and switch. I will admit that the last time I stepped on a car lot to buy a new car was in 1984 when I bought a Ford Escort wagon! I can get how a dealership would do an advertisement like you stated and then try to steer you towards a more expensive model, however, in your example what would piss me off would be the line about how they "just sold that car". This to me would deceitful in that I had told the salesman I was coming to look at that particular car and I would have stated they should "hold" the car until I arrive, which they probably wouldn't, but to then carry on the deceit by "going to the keys" knowing that vehicle had long since been sold (or worst was never available). At that point I would call out the salesman for trying to do a "bait and switch" on me and see what his reply would be. Or I would simply say I think he's full it and that he didn't really sale the vehicle (or never had it to sell) and was trying to push me into a pricier vehicle and then I would leave. The only caveat would be if the salesman said the vehicle was sold, but would show me a higher cost vehicle to be offered at the same price as the vehicle that was recently "sold". If that were to happen I know I would still have the sour taste in my mouth because I would have that feeling of being manipulated. I don't like and would probably still walk away. I just don't like shady businesses and if I know about it then I'll take appropriate action. I know that some on this forum feel that Ford has been shady about building hybrid Mavericks and if they truly feel that way then perhaps they should not buy from Ford. I feel that Ford (at this time) has done what they have said they would do. They said Maverick would be available this "Fall" (as you stated wording is everything in advertising) and Fall has just started. Hybrids are being build (not a lot granted) and shipped although not cleared for sell, as I write this post, but I'm sure clearance it will happen very soon. So for now I'm sticking with Ford and my salesman, who has answered all my questions to the best of his knowledge and I say that based on what I have gathered from other sources. Sorry if I've wandered off topic.

On my way home from lunch, I did a quick U-turn when I spied this little guy on the back of Car hauler full of F150s!! A XL Ecoboost (I saw the window sticker, but wasn't able to get a picture) arriving at Jim Click in Tucson. I checked the dealership website and they have this one listed along with 2 XLT Ecoboost models. I'm going to see if I can get a test drive!!

Went to Larry H Miller Ford to check out that xl EcoBoost Mav today. So awesome to see one and sit in it finally! Didn't bother with pics since we already have that exact one in this thread. Gotta say, the size really is perfect!

I happened to go to SanTan Ford to check out the XL Ecoboost one they received and it was taken on two test drives during the time I was there looking at it. One of the sales guys stated that it already had 800 miles on it, but it was nice to finally show my father so I could get his thoughts on it.

I watched them unload it, I didn’t get a test drive but should have. Exciting! Literally pulled up as they finished unloading it. My photos won’t upload for some reason

it was an XL EcoBoost with bed cover, copilot and full size spare.

I'm going to go on Monday and see if I can get a test drive in it. Even though I've ordered a Hybrid I figure the handling, steering etc. should be the same. Plus it will be nice to get some real road views, blind spots that kinda stuff where the motor doesn't matter.

I went over and quickly checked out the one at Jim Click in Tucson. (It started raining - in Tucson - how can that be?)

I mainly checked the seating position and seat comfort. It's not a luxury vehicle, but I was pleased with what I saw. The size is about what I expected and looks like it will be easy to maneuver. Not much else to tell.

I believe this is just the resonator and the cat is further up near the exhaust manifold. Though I could be wrong here as Im no exhaust expert.

I have officially done it now. I have placed a deposit down on a new 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid with Luxury package in Cactus Gray. I ordered it at SanTan Ford and was informed that the estimated timeframe for delivery is going to be either late Feb or sometime in March. I also found out that the XL Ecoboost AWD one they had was already sold, so I guess I'll just have to wait for one of the auto shows to test drive one.

(FYI: I'm not in a rush to receive it due to working from home at this time so the timeframe doesn't bother me one bit.)

Congrats, not too sure why dealers are asking for a deposit, did they take an of your driver's license?
