Expensive habit.Always run 93 in mine just as long time habit in my vehicles
This is a hybrid sub forum. Sorry, your post will be ignored here.I only put in Top Tier, premium fuel per the manual. Same with my other vehicles.
It may cost more for 91-93 octane but if you fill up at 1/4 low then the cost is reasonable. Definitely don’t go past a half tank. Here’s my CO Mav.My first 600 miles already since 10/21 when I took delivery, this Mav is awesome on 91. It also makes ur engine run cleaner W/O any additives...Steven Chandler

I think they were joking.Cool jacket.
Horrible logic.
It does not matter how many gallons you put in today. You'll spend the same amount of money per mile. Maybe you were adding sarcasm.![]()
As the engine breaks in, it should run better and get better mileage. And as the computer learns your driving habits, that will also affect MPG and drivability. It's not likely from the overpriced gas you're buying...I’m in socal. Have always ran 87 in my vehicles. With the maverick and it’s amazing mileage, plus what the manual says, I decided to use 91. The dealer filled me up and must’ve used regular because I just did my first fuel up with 91 and I feel the mileage is better and runs smoother
Why do you think Ford recommends 91 ? That recommendation does not make a hybrid more desirable does it; so Ford has no reason to recommend 91 other than that it is what they must think to be best for the engine. Of course it could be just a CYA. However , the hybrid gets such good MPG that the added cost of 91 is not an issue for me. If it is for you, use 87; but 5 years from now don't bitch if you have problems!!Premium in my part of the country is over $5/gallon. My Maverick drinks regular.
What kind of problems do you expect for those who use 87 octane? Why do you think Ford recommends 91 ? Whatever makes you feel more manly ....High test for me.
This old man does not want low test(osterone)!
I know that to be true scienticfically, but I don't see any notable MPG decrease in our Prius when we run ethanol enhanced fuel. Run non-ethanol mostly because sometimes we don't empty the tank very often. The energy content of denaturant is about equal to the energy content of pure gasoline. In general, vehicle fuel economy may decrease by about 3% when using E10 relative to gasoline that does not contain fuel ethanol.
I do not know ; use your imagination. We do not know how long the valve is open during compression, nor do we know what the actual compression ratio is. It is less than 13; but how much?. Ford knows all this tech info and they recommend 91, with the note that 87 is OK. (maybe just OK) Could they think there will be no warranty issues for them to cover if you use 87 (likely); and maybe they can sell you something (at your cost) after the warranty expires. That is possible. So an extra $.35 per gallon is OK for me. You decide what is best for you. What kind of problems do you expect for those who use 87 octane?
I have no idea if 87 octane will cause problems. That's why I asked you.I do not know ; use your imagination. That simple 1-line in the manual encouraged me:I have no idea if 87 octane will cause problems. That's why I asked you.
You think it's possible Ford says that using 87 octane is ok so they can sell you something after warranty? Interesting idea but I doubt it's true.
