Fuel Tank Capacity

According to the manual, my 2024 Maverick Hybrid is supposed to have a 13.8 gallon tank. Today I filled it, and I don't top off at all yet it took 14.5 gallons. I suppose the filler tube could hold 7/10ths of a gallon but I also think it would have clicked off sooner.

The volume of a liquid depends on temperature. Most gas pumps say the "volume" dispensed is based on a baseline temperature. That's why F1 cars weigh fuel. Weight is unaffected by temperature.

The manual is not clear.
But many owners on here are.
The physical tank size is 16.5 gallons in the hybrid.

But the gauge F to E only measures 13.8 gallons.

So there's always quite a good buffer / reserve in there when the dash "thinks" it is empty.

Me today actually: 14.838 and I didn't "top off". I drove for about 30 miles past "empty" because I knew I could.

did you continue filling after the fuel nozzle clicked off?
