Transmission had been acting up...was over revving similar to what other owners have reported. Clutch inside transmission had failed. Fluid was full, but burnt and full of metal shavings, according to servicing dealer. Unit was fully overhauled. Everything working fine now. All covered under warranty. Simply posting this occurance for the benefit of others.

It doesn't usually take much flaring to eventually wipe the friction material off the clutch faces, hopefully these remain rare occurrences but it would be good to know if there was a root cause for the slip that might be correctable, or if it's only a rare random mechanical failure.

Being a 2022, care to share the build date/range for your truck?

I am taking it that this was not the Hybrid's transmission.

Exact reason why I did a drain and fill at 10k miles and every 15k miles after. Close to 50k miles with no problems.

Fluid had been changed at 15K. Purely a mechanical failure.

I assume your truck is tuned since you list an intercooler in your sig?

No.

If it was tuned it would say so in my signature.

ok... that's not apparent which is why I asked. it's a bit atypical to permanently modify a truck to install a larger intercooler and then not do a reflash tune or interceptor piggyback.

it doesn't matter if you are tuned or not since the warranty repair is done, I was just curious.

the guy who has the fastest documented quarter mile on this forum got his transmission replaced under warranty, and he's got an intercooler, corsair turbo, and a bunch of stuff that could've easily been used as reasons not to warranty the transmission, but his dealership didn't see it that way.

The Intercooler is simply a durability upgrade for towing.

Vehicle currently has just over 60K miles, 40K miles on replacement transmission.

One tow since replacement, trans started exhibiting symptoms like the first failure. Parked it and called Ford for tow, dealership kept it overnight, but were not able to duplicate the symptoms, nor did the diagnostics show any codes, even though the warnings were displayed at the time of the incident. Truck seemed to run fine when I picked up the next day.

For the most part, overall I like the truck, don't like the rotary dial shifter, nor the 'nanny state, e-tronic' intrusions while I'm driving, that are constantly trying to protect me, but are more distracting than helpful. Unfortunately this seems to be common to all newer vehicles.

Hope this info will be helpful for those who might experience similar issues.

Just hit 70k miles and today my truck could not decide what gear it was in. would not go in reverse and drove forward in neutral. towed to dealer. Thank god for extended warranty 100k miles.

Which distracting intrusions are you referring to? My XLT doesn't really have any, except for pre-collision assist, but I don't ever see that after turning the sensitivity down.
