Is it in a convenient location?
I recently had an oil change on our maverick at 37,000 miles, the service manager showed me our original cabin filter and recommended it be changed. I asked her if it was a required filer.she said yes it filters pollen and pet dander from outside. I said we drive with the windows open sometimes....I got a blank stare....she said if I leave the filter out an acorn or debris could get into the blower motor and damage it.so I told her to replace it. 42 dollars at the dealer. I will replace it myself 3-4 years from now with an aftermarket filter that iam sure is half price.

Changed mine yesterday. Original with 41k. I’m not a heavy HVAC user and I thought it looked and smelt fine, but I’m sure there’s particles that I can’t see. Also tip, if you have a moonroof a shop light on top of it provides great lighting for interior chores.

Changed my cabin filter for the first time in my 24' with 21,600 miles. Which I believe is 1600 mi over the recommended interval I mainly drive all highway, very little city and on construction sites.

This is the filthiest cabin filter I've ever seen after a tick over 20,000 miles.

I changed mine at around 6000 miles and it was pretty dirty. Just started using the K&N filter. Never tried their cabin filters before but have been using their engine filters for almost 30 years and I swear by them. They are lifetime filters, so you only have to buy it once.

Before you take your vehicle in for an oil (etc) change, take a pen and place a mark on an obscure part of the air filter, engine or cabin, just to be sure you’re shown YOUR filter, and not a filthy one that they keep for ā€œmarketingā€ purposes.
You wouldn’t be the first victim of this scam.

I changed mine, here in the dusty Arizona desert at 12,000 miles and it looked way worse than that! I do it every oil change now which works out to about 7000 miles, I change the oil in my hybrid at about 25% of oil filter life remaining, if I had the turbo I would change it more often. Odly enough my engine air filter looks great, I do that every third oil change and it looks almost brand new every time.

Very simple took 5 minutes start to finish. Open glove box, release 2 tabs on each side, release dampener on ps if equipped, remove glove box, push two tabs outwards on each side of filter door, remove filter door, remove and replace filter. Then reinstall in reverse order.

I did and it’s actually posted in this thread a few posts up from yours. šŸ˜‰šŸ‘

Ok yea I see it, I m pretty low tech, mine probably looked like that at 2100 miles, I guess the intake is in front of the windshield? The engine pulls from inside the engine bay and thats why its so much cleaner.

at 13 months and 27.5K, I changed both the air & cabin filters. The air filter, not so dirty, the cabin filter needed changing.

A moderately dirty filter, filters better than a clean one, if that's your goal. If you want max CFM, then keep it spotless.
