Hi all, I purchased a 22 XLT lux pack hybrid back in June w/ about 10,000 miles to replace my 2019 Mercedes c300 when we moved from the city to a rural area in SW Michigan. At 14xxx miles now, I am loving nearly 50mpg and the Maverick overall, but have been plagued with some issues that have me considering switching to an ecoboost. At 11,000 miles, I had a severe coolant leak (would go from max to min line every 100 miles). Turned out the exhaust heat exchange was leaking. Then remote start wouldn’t work. Took into dealer who reset it and got it working. Now I’m having battery issues. If the car sits more than a day, the battery will go flat and the car goes into ā€œdeep sleep modeā€ after being parked for an hour. I’ve also been plagued with electronic issues since day one. CarPlay only works half the time, screen randomly restarts while driving, and my bed lights wouldn’t turn off until I disconnected and then reconnected battery.

Though I love my hybrid, I’m curious if any of you have switched from a hybrid to an ecoboost as my car has spent a total time at the dealer or 8 weeks since I got it late June. Online, the ecoboost seems to have a higher reliability score so far and I’d like the capacity to have AWD now that I’m in a snow my area. It also seems like the early 22s have more issues than 23s.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I have an Ecob and it’s been great but only has 2500 miles on it. I bought it because I have a Mach e GTPE and didn’t want two new tech new models at the same time. It has worked out great. The Mach e has 12000 miles and I don’t use it for anything longer than 200 miles round trip. It has never been DC charged and has never had a problem. I use the Maverick for trips to the beach or other longer trips and if I need to pick up larger items. It has never had a problem and everything operates as you would expect it to. I may consider trading the Maverick for a new Maverick when I feel all the problems have been addressed. Probably about two more years.

Had 12 recalls on my 2nd year Mini-Cooper S in first year.
Had 14 recalls on company's Hynd. KIA - in first year.
Had 2 recall on Porsche Cayman S - in first 8 years.
Had 3 recalls on company Maverick EcoBoost -(20,000 miles) in first year.
Had 1 recall on 2022 Maverick Hybrid (19,000 miles -in 2 yrs) - in first year (rear ceiling airbag)

So my Mav Hybrid has been the most reliable.
Needed to sale one of our Mavericks, and the 44 MPG of the Hybrid was the WINNER!
Had one recall In 14 years on my ram.hope my maverick is even better!

My '22 Maverick EB would be considered an early build. It was built in January 2022 (just four months after release to the public) and was delivered by mid-March 2022. Special-ordered in September 2021. Mechanically, it's been fantastic. Just routine 6-month oil changes/tire rotations. Also, the battery saver mode did its job after the truck sat in our driveway for over a week. As a result, it started right up. However, being a first model year, it did have the inevitable recalls.

One for the airbags and one for the faulty roof moldings. Both have been addressed a while ago and it's been great ever since. I initially wanted to get a Hybrid but given the dead battery issues, fires, and the aforementioned "deep sleep mode" that plagued the early builds, it scared me away big time. Plus, I wanted AWD considering that I will be moving to snow country in the not-so-distant future.

Since I've enjoyed my experience so much, I took the plunge and ordered another one, this time with the added FX4 package that will benefit me even more in the winter months. And considering the Maverick will be on its third model year, it shouldn't have any more recalls or teething issues. Plus, I've heard from early '24 owners that the interior quality has improved. They say the materials have a shinier finish that is more scratch resistant so I'll definitely appreciate that as that is my main complaint with the Maverick in general.
I can’t blame you for going with EB. I’m not knocking the hybrids but I live in upstate New York, and I don’t want to have to worry about things shutting off while driving in single digit temps. Plus the EB with the AWD was a no brainer. No matter where I live I would still avoid the hybrid, just too much to have to worry about, I can only hope that Ford will improve on them in the future.

This doesn't answer your question, but in '22 I wanted a hybrid but wasn't willing to pay $10-12k over MSRP. So I ordered a '23 hybrid the dealer promised to sell at MSRP. I was tired of my 2016 GMC Canyon V6 so I sold it and got big $$ after 6 yrs and 30k miles.

I missed having a truck so I bought a '22 EB off the lot for $1800 over MSRP. My '23 hybrid rolled over to a 24 and was delivered in October 23 as the 3,170th '24 built.

Meanwhile, my 22 EB had 8,800 trouble-free miles on it when I sadly parted with it this weekend and displayed 31mpg. My 24 hybrid has only 850 miles on it, says it is getting 46mpg and so far no issues. I am still getting used to the sound of its ICE when it kicks in at low speeds because on initial startup and launch, electric driving is so quiet. I added the engine cushion cover to my 22 EB so it was really quiet. On the same freeway onramp, the hybrid sounds like it is working a little harder than the EB was, but has no trouble merging.
But Ford got me at 46mpg in the land of $5/gallon gas.

It’s one of the reasons I can’t get rid of it yet. I absolutely love the truck and its capabilities. I’ve done 12 mile trips which have gotten 68 mpg. I’ve towed jet skis just fine, hauled mulch this fall, used it to move out of state, and can ride around the city in electric mode (under 20ish mph and when the temps are warm enough). It’s actually great in the winter too. So far, I actually like that the ICE engine kicks on more. Seems to get the heater going quicker, and I feel better letting the engine oil cycle in my drive way for atleast a few seconds on the mornings it’s really cold. FWD means it’s a little tricky turning or in really slushy areas but it’s duable.

got my '22 delivered in March '22 (after a one year wait) and the only problem I've had(19K miles) is the very low speed grabby brakes (5-6 times in almost 2 years) and the interior spotlights aren't coming on when entering the truck.O/W the trruck has been a total winner, especially the 47MPG

No doubt I was a victim of being an early adopter, but the way Ford handled the issues soured the brand's perception with me. And I've bought a LOT of Fords earlier in life.
I've heard some of the dealerships have been a pain to deal with, but that's not Ford. Ford themselves were proactive on the forums, and quick to issue recalls. Whereas the sante Cruz is dropping transmissions, and Hyundai still hasn't done anything about it.

If you get the software updates done at the dealership, it will make the brakes a little less sensitive.

By now it appears the only teething pain left for the Hybrid models is the undersized battery under the back seat. The electronics draw is a little too steep for anything other than overnight, and they don't hold enough charge to prevent deep-sleep or conservation mode.

I'm really liking the way the Hybrid toggles back and forth between Electric & Hybrid modes, and the engine seems to heat pretty darn quick on cold mornings. My first Hybrid and first Pick-Up, and I'm super happy with it thus far. (They just need to rename Atlast Blue to Tardis Blue!).

from reading the forums and other online resources, I would be very surprised if you had any issues at all on your 2024. Like all new models and new technology, the first year will almost always have inevitable problems. I just got stuck with one of the bad cars. Learning how to drive and match the cars regenerative breaking as you put even more miles on, you’ll find you can even get a higher MPG on nice weather days enjoy!

I have a 22 Lariat trim that I bought in 12/21. I had a software update for my 4K hitch and the side airbag recall. Except for the power drain on the battery (I use a battery tender once every 1-2 weeks), I have had no other problems. I did buy an extended warranty due to Ford's reputation for less than average reliability.
