Had 12 recalls on my 2nd year Mini-Cooper S in first year.
Had 14 recalls on company's Hynd. KIA - in first year.
Had 2 recall on Porsche Cayman S - in first 8 years.
Had 3 recalls on company Maverick EcoBoost -(20,000 miles) in first year.
Had 1 recall on 2022 Maverick Hybrid (19,000 miles -in 2 yrs) - in first year (rear ceiling airbag)

So my Mav Hybrid has been the most reliable.
Similar experience. Two years in, my Mav hybrid is tied with a Hyundai accent for being the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned; smashing, among others, a Toyota corolla and civic. But, I'll get back to you when the warranty is over.

I feel your pain. I purchased a 2022 XLT in December 2022. That was quickly followed by the onslaught of recalls as well as many other issues over the next six months that were not recall related. It was in the shop more time during that period than all my previous vehicles combined. I figured this model was not going to age well so I got rid of it before it lost any more value and don’t regret it for a second.

If this forum is any indication, it seems reliability improved in 2023 and hopefully that continues in 2024. I do like the Maverick enough to give it another chance and I have a 2024 EB scheduled for production this week. But I’m done with the hybrids and reliability is the main factor, specifically electronics. That is not to say the hybrid is a bad option. It has plenty of satisfied owners and I probably got a lemon but not many people have a bad experience with a specific model and then go buy another one. Good luck with your choice.

I agree. Very well said. I know personally people who have the hybrid with zero issues as well as many in this group. Love the hybrid powertrain, but the ecoboost engine seems to be stout. Not to mention the power & AWD capability. For my lifestyle, I need something ā€œturn keyā€ and I’ve had enough issues with my car so far I just can’t rely on it to take it on big road trips etc

Land mine set. I’ll be watching from the bushes!
This was funny, I expected to "watch from the bushes" also.
But it did not happen, civil and instructive thread, no mines exploding

It was my first thread… you had me on the edge of my seat :) I went through after posting and didn’t realize it was such a divided opinion šŸ˜‚

I've generally found that a car that's reliable under warranty tends to be reliable well after the warranty expires, so fingers crossed. I know there's that joke about a car falling apart right after a warranty ends, but I've never seen that in the real world.

Online, the ecoboost seems to have a higher reliability score so far and I’d like the capacity to have AWD now that I’m in a snow my area. It also seems like the early 22s have more issues than 23s.
My 2022 EB AWD is a fairly early build. I took delivery 10/21/21.

The only issues I've had were the recalls for the fuel tank (since I have the SIBL) and side curtain airbags, both of which got taken care of without much fuss by my local dealer. So my experience has been good thus far (11K+ miles) and my mileage has been good (overall average 25+). Foul weather is no issue after 2 full winters in New England.

I have a base 2023 EcoBoost XLT. Took delivery just about a year ago. Only upgrades I did was a SIBL applied by Line-X and tri fold soft cover by Rough County. Just over 11,000 miles. Have had no mechanical issues what so ever. Change the oil every 5K and coolant level has not gone down at all. Remains about 29 to 30 MPG. Ecoboost 2.0 has been a great engine so far. Curious as to see if carbon buildup on the valves is going to be an issue in future. Also curious as to turbo life.

I ordered my Hybrid in August 2021. It really seemed like it would be perfect for my requirements, but I was leery about buying one of the first production units of a new vehicle. When I placed the order, the very knowledgeable sales manager told me that ordering splash guards would delay production since splash guards were a "constraint option". I told him that if the mighty Ford Motor Company could not figure out splash guard installation, I would gladly wait until they could.

It took 17 seemingly endless months before my MY22 Hybrid was delivered. I think there may have been more problems with the earlier production units, mine has only been in the shop for an oil change. It's really running nice.

Since the OP is having problems with one of the early production units, I recommend he trade it in on a MY24 unit.

Ironically, one day my Rottweiler decided that the driver's front splash guard would make a dandy chew toy and almost totally ripped it off the truck. I got it back in place, but it still shows some tooth dimples. My complements to the Ford splash guard engineers.

I think your last sentence sums it up and I felt the same way. If you have a new truck and you don’t trust driving it out of town then it’s time to get rid of it. Doesn’t mater what type of vehicle it is. One thing to be aware of with the EB is parasitic battery drain which probably has something to with the issues you are having. This can affect all Ford models and it is more prevalent with hybrids but is also causes issues with some EB’s. It’s not something that will keep me from getting the EB but it is something you should check out just to avoid surprises. There are plenty of threads with some very good information.

My '22 Maverick EB would be considered an early build. It was built in January 2022 (just four months after release to the public) and was delivered by mid-March 2022. Special-ordered in September 2021. Mechanically, it's been fantastic. Just routine 6-month oil changes/tire rotations. Also, the battery saver mode did its job after the truck sat in our driveway for over a week. As a result, it started right up. However, being a first model year, it did have the inevitable recalls.

One for the airbags and one for the faulty roof moldings. Both have been addressed a while ago and it's been great ever since. I initially wanted to get a Hybrid but given the dead battery issues, fires, and the aforementioned "deep sleep mode" that plagued the early builds, it scared me away big time. Plus, I wanted AWD considering that I will be moving to snow country in the not-so-distant future.

Since I've enjoyed my experience so much, I took the plunge and ordered another one, this time with the added FX4 package that will benefit me even more in the winter months. And considering the Maverick will be on its third model year, it shouldn't have any more recalls or teething issues. Plus, I've heard from early '24 owners that the interior quality has improved. They say the materials have a shinier finish that is more scratch resistant so I'll definitely appreciate that as that is my main complaint with the Maverick in general.

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either powertrain. They both have there fits, I have had 4 ecoboosts now in escapes and Bronco sports and yet to have a issue, And so far I am in love with my first hybrid. The truck is solid, get the powerplant that fits you best.

Only 8,000 miles on my ā€˜23 EB, AWD, 4k Tow Package Area51. Zero issues so far. We ran up to TN a few weeks ago and got 30mpg. I drive it like I stole it. About 1,500 miles on that trip. Morning temperatures were in the 40’s and 50’s, so it was nice to start up the XL and have the heater running while we were still finishing breakfast in the hotel. The app is great.

It seems like you were just in that unlikely 1-2% of owners who ends up with a lemon unfortunately. The maverick is solid, but statistical outliers will always exist my friend, especially with a large sample size. It's kinda of like how the Prius is objectively one of the most reliable cars you can buy, but you'll still near stories about people having issues.
No doubt I was a victim of being an early adopter, but the way Ford handled the issues soured the brand's perception with me. And I've bought a LOT of Fords earlier in life.

Funny thing was I traded in my Mercedes with 50k miles for this car bc I wanted something reliable. Mercedes I had zero issues with in 2.5 years and 30k miles. Not even so much as a buggy screen etc. before that, I had a 2013 Audi a4. Traded it with 120k miles with less than $1000 spent in repairs besides normal maintenance over the 6 years and 68k miles I had ownership.
It really seems like Ford is in denial, or maybe it's their customers. There's a reason toyota is #1 worldwide.

Oh, well, creating value for their shareholders ain't easy.
