I know we all have our own reasons for choosing Maverick over other vehicles. Assuming of course you have already made your choice and aren't just coming here looking for info. If you are hopefully this post helps you make your choice.

When I got into the market for my next vehicle I had a lot of things I was looking at.

The pricing was a part of it, for sure. The lower the price the more creature comforts I can add. A new Maverick, moderately well equipped, costs about the same as a few year old used Ranger/Frontier/Tacoma.

Gas mileage, well, I remember $5 a gallon gas back in 2015. That's part of why I sold my Jeep Cherokee and bought the little Kia I'm about to replace.(whenever they build my Mav hybrid, lol) I don't want to be in a position where gas money becomes an issue again. I'm too old for that $@%*. In my case thats why I chose the hybrid.

Lower ride height and bed height. I'm 5'5" and my wife is 5'2". I'd rather not need a ladder to climb into my vehicle, or to reach into the bed. In my work van I have to carry a small step ladder to reach the roof rack, and its annoying. Same with getting into the bed of the F250 Super duty at work.

The bed itself. I am not someone who uses the bed often, and when I do its small things usually. A run to lowes or tractor supply for stuff. Rarely if ever would a 4.5 foot bed be too small. If it is, ill take a sheet of plywood and anchor it to wooden crossmembers in the bed, strap it in with a set of tie downs, and Boom! temporary 8 foot bed.

The ride. From everything I have found out so far the Maverick rides more like an SUV and less like a truck, because of the way its constructed. My wife has a bad back, a smoother ride means less pain for her. I'm a fan of that.

The creature comforts. One thing that was a must have is heated seats, once again for her bad back. Works wonders on mine too, but I'm more concerned with her then me. She is also a big fan of having a sunroof. The fact that one is available relatively cheaply was a big bonus.

The activeX seats are also kind of a must for me, as I have grandkids that would stain up cloth seats in less time that it has taken me to type this.

There are those talking about "low end materials" in the cab. There is quite a bit of hard plastic in the areas that aren't commonly touched. I see that as a bonus. Easier to clean and maintain. Hell, it could be painted sheet metal and I would be OK with it.

There are a few things that I wish were set up differently on Maverick though.

I would like to see an AWD hybrid. Not for me personally, but for those living in snowy climates. FWD is good in the snow, but AWD/4WD is better.

A broader range of customization than just the two tiers of luxury package. There is a lot that I am getting with the package that I don't really need but I have to take it to get what I want.
Heated seats are a must for me, and so is the activeX material, so I really had no options as a hybrid buyer. Its probably done this way to simplify manufacturing, but still slightly annoying.

Tow hooks should be available and fully functional for all models. If you think only people out four wheeling get their truck stuck you have never been thru a snowstorm or hydroplaned on a wet road. Lots of reasons someone could end up in a ditch, I would have gotten a tow hook upgrade if it were available. Sadly, Its not for us hybrid folks.

I may think of more later, and I'm sure others will add their pros and cons in the comments.

My company is taking away company vehicles in the worst market to purchase a car in decades. lol

So with that said, they are giving a stipend that I wanted to be under in payment with gas included.

I currently have a Ford Fusion Hybrid and knew the Maverick Hybrid would have similar mileage along with 4DR and the utility of a truck. No brainer.

I was not even in the market for a new vehicle when the Maverick was announced in June.

I only buy new and keep my vehicles 12+ years. I call it "cradle-to-grave" mode as I only want a new vehicle not something that may be used and abused or badly maintained. I was only at about 7 years on my 2015 Honda Fit Ex when the Maverick was announced.

My previous vehicle was a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab that I had for 16 years + 2 months. I loved the Ranger but it had problems at the end and was going to cost a lot to fix and was only getting about 8 MPG at the end because of those problems. So in 2014 I looked at the new trucks that were available but they were too big and/or too expensive so I settled for the high MPG 2015 Honda Fit with the versatile back seat storage system.

Then June 2021 happened with the announcement of the 2022 Ford Maverick with the Standard Hybrid powertrain for the starting price of $19,995 and I realized that I again can have a truck at a reasonably low price with fantastic City MPG (95% of my driving is in the city) that is just a little shorter than my previous 1998 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab.

So after reviewing many online articles and joining the MaverickTruckClub in late July and doing further reading I pulled the plug and ordered My new Maverick XLT Hybrid on 8/23. I am scheduled for production in two weeks on 11/22.

I have a signed "Buyers Order" with the final price on it and with today's wacky used car prices I sold my 2015 Honda Fit Ex last month for $16,523 to Carvana and we are both sharing my wife's 2009 Honda CR-V Ex for the next two months. She is currently working remotely and I am retired. She is actually receiving benefits since I am upgrading the head unit to a more modern Android system (with Android Auto) with a backup camera so she is very happy about that.

Once I ordered my Maverick I sold my F150. It was too big and 13 mpg was horrendous. I rarely ever used it’s full potential.

For a couple of years now I’ve been wanting a more fuel efficient truck but there weren’t any. Not fuel efficient enough for me anyways until the hybrid Maverick came along.

Looking forward to when I actually get it so I can use my Mustang as a weekends only vehicle like I had intended it to be and use the Maverick as my daily driver.

Last time I was vehicle shopping was 2014 as well, and I ended up getting a Kia Forte for the gas milage, because there were no trucks in my price range.

I would also have gotten probably another 5-7 years out of that Kia, but it just so happens my youngest kid is gonna be needing a car in about 6 months.... so, I ordered my Maverick on 11/1.

Going to be glad to be back in a truck again, and I've always liked the smaller ones.

I was looking for a truck new but being in my 20s and working a min wage job my options became limited to the maverick or a base Tacoma or Colorado or ranger. And pound for pound , dollar for dollar the maverick hits the mark far better than the former. I need occasional truck duties now in my field vs my old jobs and just need towing capabilities for when I move to the south in a couple years in a silo trip. So maverick with the ecoboost and tow 4k tow package it was. It hits all the marks. Very affordable for its capabilities

The standard hybrid engjne and reasonable cost. Even though my (and many other would be owners) choice of the the hybrid has seemed to completely surprised Ford as demonstrated by their in ability to produce them in a reasonable manner.

Another thing just occurred to me on the things i was not a fan of during ordering. The sliding rear window being part of packages that also include things not available any other way.

I need the heated active x seats. That means I am stuck with a power sliding rear window I don't really want.

Like I said earlier, its probably all about ease of manufacturing, but still annoying.

Then I looked at the Bronco ordering page... much more customisable.

I've been retired for a little over a year now so I was able to settle into my new daily routine and that showed me my F150 was more than I needed. Toss in crazy offers from companies buying used cars and bye bye F150, hello Mav

There are quite a few reasons:
  • Low vehicle ingress and egress compared to mid and full-size trucks. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and my daughter is very independent and likes to do things herself like climbing in and out of the vehicles. Last thing I want is to rely on step bars where there is a higher potential for her to fall and hurt herself.
  • Unibody construction. I really enjoy driving cars over trucks due to the driving dynamics. With the unibody construction, handling should be sharper compared to body on frame vehicles.
  • Better pricing. I've had my eyes on the Ranger since their return but unfortunately the interior left a lot to be desired, especially for the price. A comparable Ranger (Lariat, 4WD, SuperCrew with options) would be ~$8K more. I also don't need that much truck - I need truck like capability.
  • I needed a truck. I am a DIYer when it comes to house projects, so I need truck functionality. My wife's Honda Odyssey can fit a bunch of stuff in it but sliding plywood or sheetrock bitches up the interior with scratches and dirt. I try to use my Honda Fit when possible but it's not always practical. I mean heck, here is a photo from yesterday (yes, my inspection is way past expired ha).

People either love or hate the interior. For me, the abundant use of plastics doesn't bother me. I don't need the vehicle interior try to be more than what it is. I care way more about creature comforts. Plus, I am coming from a 2009 Honda Fit so plastic will be VERY familiar
