So I can't quote the original statistic, I believe it's in Ford's official filing on the crankshaft issue, but they stated their calculations show this defect to occur in 0.12 per 1,000 vehicles. So to put it another way, 2 trucks out of 10,000, technically 1.2 but that isn't helpful so I rounded up. 12 trucks out of 100,000.

OP, thanks for sharing this. Always good to know potential failure modes. For the Ecoboost so far, the rare but nonzero catastrophic failures seem to be this, the transmission at higher mileage, and at least one turbo. Don't recall seeing too many other reports on the Ecooboost.

The hybrid's are Toyota engine's so highly unlikely... 😊
The Hybrid doesn't use a Toyota engine. They both use a 2.5 cc. The Maverick uses a Mazda block and the Toyota uses a Toyota block. They both use special internals and heads to get The Atkinson cycle engine.

No, Ford manufactures the hybrid's engine. At best it is technically an old Mazda design in the waning days of their association with Ford.
The hybrid motors that Ford uses are leased from Toyota and they have been in escape hybrids for a long time. On top of this, hybrid technology is much less stressful on the gas motor components of the vehicle, so hybrids are likely to last longer than the EcoBoost counterparts.

DUDE... you are terribly misinformed.

Not only is it a Ford engine, not Toyota, Ford actually innovated a number of improvements in their e-cvt that Toyota then implemented.

Back on to the failed engine issue, yes, if I were the OP he is already outside of bumper-to-bumper and now he has an engine warrantied for 150k miles. I would keep driving it and if it fails again, warranty replace that then sell.

My first Nissan Frontier 15 years ago was only 2 months old when it had an engine replacement. Ran fine for 75k miles after.

The illustrious Scotty Kilmer says the Atkinson engine is more complicated.

Wow, I've put about 65k miles on my '22 Maverick, no engine problems yet. Only issue has been the battery drain while it was off. I must be lucky.

Eh - as mentioned above, it was a subset of engines anyway that might have the defect. Lucky would be the ones to have it, odds are you don't.

https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...and-maverick-2022-2023-engine-failure-recall/

Isolated engine manufacturing issues have resulted in engine failures involving engine block or oil pan breach on certain 2020—2023 Ford Escape and 2022—2023 Maverick vehicles with 2.5L HEV/PHEV engines.

I've tried to watch about 1 of his videos. Nails on the chalkboard to my ears.

Well that's weird because my cousin is an engineer at the Dearborn plant and he said they've been in an agreement with Toyota for the hybrid system since early 2000.

Man, it's like these hybrids are cursed. Damn shame for the poor folks that have to deal with it. At least Ford is fixing them.

The OP‘s engine that had to be replaced is a hybrid.

I'll politely leave it at that. do your own research and please stop spreading misinformation.
