Great Truck but..... Issue with dash quality. Many vehicles and this never happened before.

How many of you have been around, bought or thrown away tools, pistol grips, etc. that had rubber that started getting sticky?

I had an entire VW Jetta that did that. Literally, the entire interior.

I see what looks like pet hairs on the lower dash on the pics, any chance OP has a cat an it sprayed the dash?

I have a cat, and she has done some damage around the house over the years - but if that dash was "sprayed," I think it was by something more like this...

Have a dash cover because of the “ sticky dash” problem that is common with some Mavericks. Dash is still a little tacky under the cover but nowhere near as bad as when the full sun was beating down on it without a cover.
Didn’t even realize I had a sticky dash until I saw one of the posts on here and checked mine and sure enough I had the problem.
I’ll go out in the morning to check for discoloration under the dash cover.

My wife's dash on her Escape isn't sticky in hot weather.
My Buick Encore's wasn't sticky in hot weather.
I would consider 125° hot weather.

Not a good feeling for long term happiness. Glad I’m retired, my Maverick gets to stay in the shade a lot.

Maverick dashboards only. Never seen sticky dashboards on any other vehicles to include Ford.

Could you imagine having someone in the car with you like a coworker that is just an acquaintance, not a true friend, then you get in a car wreck and your dash pad hits them in the face at 100 mph causing multiple facial fractures or blindness, then they sue you for negligence for putting a dash pad cover over the air bag deployment area?

The new formulations break down prematurely due to ultraviolet exposure from the sun and heat cycling. This causes what is called “blooming”. Where the broken-down polymers inside the dashboard material work their way up to the surface of the dash.

Nope can't imagine it happening.
My dash pad is a lot softer than the canvas air bag. My dash pad is just laying on my dash, not even taped.
The sticky dash holds it in place.
Then again if we are "What IF'ing" things.
What IF after years in the sun. The dash becomes brittle and the plastic breaks? I would rather have the dash pad in between me and plastic shards.
What IF the air bag igniter is bad as in "takata" and does work properly. At least there's dash pad cushion the impact.

Explains why my older tools and other items with rubber griping surfaces are still okay. I have some 30 year old Pachmayr recoil pads that still feel like they did when new.

These "blooming" gases being released from the dash and other plastics also cause the film on the inside of the windshield.

Get you a pair of Polarized sunglasses if you want to greatly reduce glare. They even have light yellow tinted Polarized glasses/clip-ons for night driving. Really helps with glare from the fn LED headlights from hell.

Got driving glasses before the cataract surgery just to be able to drive at night. Are you referring to the headlights on the Mav. They're freekin blinding.

My Mav’s dash and steering wheel were sticky from day one when hot.

It’s just an absolute trash interior plastics choice. The only reason I did not upgrade to the 2025 hybrid AWD.

Sorry the 5% visual tint is Almost no tint and I think it's much less actually and is a cya claim. ONLY FOR THE 99% IR (heat part of sunlight) blockage. I had 20% visual 99% IR on all five windows but NOT WINDSHIELD. FOR YOU THE 5%+99%IR ALL AROUND MAY BE WORTH IT? I had SS cataract surgery and did not ask VA for coverage so I don't know, maybe not for you. I got distance correction lenses and wear VA furnished bifocals for near correction & clear glass above but astigmatism correction added for both. This so I can live with SS lenses and any or all future vision correction with glasses. I highly recommend cataract surgery. My wife has high pressure in eyes and take glaucoma meds related. She sounds much better off than your wife. I eat three Brazil nuts twice a month and one every day or two. They are ultra high in selenium and too many are bad on liver which is holding steady but I need them to keep short term memory working (if I skip four days straight I have to search for cell phone/glasses, etc). Walnuts are high in omega 3 and 4 halves a day for a couple months will get my skin really soft/slick? (also helps dandruff!).

Thanks for this information! I should have been a little more clear. I have had the SS cataract surgery and it helped some for daylight driving. My night vision went to hell though. I was given glasses for night time driving which help a little. Still see those "stars" when the oncoming headlights are pointed my way. I eat walnuts also! I also do cashews and almonds but have never heard about the Brazil nuts. I need to ask my friends what percentages of their windows are tinted so I get a better understanding. Thanks again!

I was a volunteer Fire chief/EMT for over 20 years. Our district was busy and I'll bet I have responded to a few hundred vehicle crashes, many with bag deployments. Those dash covers won't be an issue. They attach to the dash with a few strips of small velcro, with cheapo glue that barely holds the cover to the dash. I have seen a few dash covers after bag deployment and most end up smashed to the inside of the windshield. Also, the detonators are VERY powerful and honestly, many times the folks in the car can get some fairly serious facial injuries from the bags them selves. We had to take classes on how to deactivate (can't do it on some of them) the airbags, as many first responders have been seriously injured and killed while extricating people out of the vehicles. We never had it happen, but we were always thinking and being careful around those things. Dash cover hurting someone? Nah.
