Is it correct that if you do a claim, even if you fully pay out of pocket with your deductible, then that means if there's another accident (within a year?) then that deductible amount has already been reached and you'll be covered for any further costs?
No, automobile deductibles apply separately for each claim (e.g., you pay the first $500 for every accident).

You may be thinking of medical insurance which typically has a cumulative annual deductible.

I love all the advice. Heres mine. Just about every car dealership uses a lot painter ( Mobile service ) that does touch up on bumpers minor imperfections etc. One such outfit is Colors on Parade. Check with your dealership or if they dont use one other local dealerships who they use and get a quote. It will always be less than a body shop. https://colorsonparade.com/ you can also check with them directly for a bumper repair quote. As someone that does a great deal of bodywork , their work is pretty good overall.
Agreed. A few years back, I went to pick up a vehicle I was leasing. It had a pretty sizable gouge in the rear bumper cover - like someone backed into it and caught my bumper with something protruding from theirs. The dealer said to come back the next day and it would be taken care of. I swear I couldn't find the spot on the bumper when I returned. Dealers all have access to this type of service. Moving hundreds of vehicles around crowded lots every day of the year, shit happens.

I didn't make a fuss. As far as I was concerned, the car was good as new. Well, at that point, it still was new. I don't know what that service cost, but I'm sure it's a lot less costly than dealing with a body shop who is going to want to replace the bumper cover completely or repaint the whole thing. A body shop repair may also trigger the dreaded carfax notation. Just another consideration.

BTW, I don't think there are any safety sensors in that are of Maverick's bumper...

Thank you, we really appreciate the advice that everyone has provided. From the DIY solutions to the take it to any body shop suggestions and even the just leave it as is recommendations. We are really thankful for all the advice provided. BUT..........:)

Bodywork is a little bit out of our wheelhouse so that will be a last resort option. Not that we don't think we can't do it but it's just some thing we aren't comfortable doing. Leaving it as is was something we also considered but because this is our first new vehicle purchase we want to get it fixed. We have an appointment at the dealer we bought it from to get a quote to see what it costs to fix it. We will shop around to if the quote comes back to high.

Anyway, we also want to mention that this WAS NOT A HIT AND RUN. One member eluded to it at the beginning of this thread but that is not what happened. THIS WAS NOT A HIT AND RUN.

I shouldn't pry but nevertheless I'm curious. Is it that you don't have insurance?

Ok either way you eluded to explain the situation after many asked. Also you posted this up on a blog thread about mavericks? Did you really think people would not be curious as to what happened in full detail lol.

So our first minor fender bender happened today. While pulling out of a parking spot the front passenger side bumper side swiped the vehicle next to it......sigh......I know these things happen but at less than 200 miles it's frustrating....why oh why????

Anyway, just wanted to get everyones opinion on how to proceed. Unfortunately turning it over to insurance is not an option so we were thinking about just calling the dealer we bought it from and making an appointment with the body shop. Is that a solid plan?

Here's a pic of the damage. As you can see it's not bad but we want to get it fixed.

No we have insurance. The reason I didn't want to give any backstory is because my wife was embarrassed because the truck only has around 200 miles on it. She didn't want me to say who was at fault because it was her fault. She sideswiped the drivers side of my GMC Acadia......so not only did she damage the Mav but she also damaged my vehicle.

The reason I mentioned in my OP that insurance was not an option is because Allstate does not cover in family accidents.

At least it didn't hit a few inches higher or a $1200 light would be in order

It’s your first new car. I would get it fixed properly. Shop around for a good collision shop or go on your local in search of group on Facebook and find a good shop close by.

It hurts having to put out the money for a repair. Once the car is repaired you will feel much better.

Now turn off the internet and get some sleep.

If you messed up a sensor, it would probably tell you on the dash. I rented a car with a bad sensor and it told you every time you started it that the collision avoidance system wasn't working.
Not necessarily - I had similar damage, but on the driver's side. I had to have the ECU replaced, but there was no indication on the dash that there was a problem. It was not a hard hit at all, more of a scrape...
