I bought a Maverick without the towing package and would like to install a 2” receiver hitch strictly for using a bed extender for kayaks and possibly a hitch mounted bike rack. I’ve called a bunch of hitch places around here in Southern Maine and they all want 650 to 850 purchase and install a hitch. that’s incredibly expensive in my opinion. Can buy a receiver hitch for roughly 200 and the bed extender for a little over 100 at Harbor freight. Has anyone bought one and installed it themselves on their Maverick? It can’t be that hard.

Updated link see post #8
🤔There are two types of hitches you can choose from one is installed INTO the bed frame rails(factory style) and the other is attached to the frame rails.(add-on)
Good luck
Useless link deleted.

That is the least helpful thread ever.
You are correct about that.
Sorry
I thought it was the one that "bbhaag" linked or the one I posted a picture in.
Good luck

Glen is right though. You have two options.

I’d probably go with the OEM all in one crash bar and hitch but for your purposes the a Curt or Lock Tite will do just fine.

if you do the OEM one you’ll be removing taillights and your rear bumper cover.

I bought the aftermarket one for the frame easy to install just a few bolts and I think it’s stronger than the factory ones
Then I bought the harness aftermarket that plugs in and it was really easy For the lights

Just out of curiosity.
What leads you to believe the bolt on is stronger than one that is designed to fit within the frame structure of the truck?

I purchased the OEM hitch and installed by myself. The job took about 3 hours. Straight forward following utube video. One tip would be to remember where each screw attaches the plastic bumper. There are like 3 different sizes.

I look at the minor difference between the OEM crash bar and hitch, and wonder why they didn't just put hitches on all Mavericks. The few steel plates and 4-pin wiring harness that make up the difference couldn't be that expensive in large quantities. Pennies do add up though, I suppose.
